Heh, the advertisement of these ...P fellows worked. Note, they all have just one post an they praise this book with no shame. Most likely the ...P people are just one person with different forum accounts. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- jmpessoa · 2015-03-29 17:30 My  contribution to the advertisement    http://www.amazon.com/Getting-Started-Lazarus-Free-Pascal- ebook/dp/B00SL3ZUZS Thank You! ---------------------------------------------------------------------- typo · 2015-03-29 17:40 "Friendliest" and "most inspiring" book. Awesome. They are in Wikipedia too, as a further reading of Lazarus Component Library entry. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Martin_fr · 2015-03-29 19:05 Quote from: JuhaManninen on March 29, 2015, 07:20:29 pmHeh, the advertisement of these ...P fellows worked. Actually: One of them posted from a different country (not to far ...) than the OT. Probably a friend. Some of the others have the same IP. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- typo · 2015-03-29 19:34 Lazarus business is in growth... ---------------------------------------------------------------------- marcov · 2015-03-29 20:08 Hmm, terryP and JamesP use the same IP address for posting........ I'm afraid that the testimonies of the first time posters whose name ends in a "P" are not really independent. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Signal · 2015-03-29 20:09 Quote from: Martin_fr on March 29, 2015, 09:05:38 pm Actually: One of them posted from a different country (not to far ...) than the OT. Perhaps we should establish a dedicated sub-forum for advertisements. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Signal · 2015-03-30 00:25 Quote from: jmpessoa on March 29, 2015, 07:30:55 pm http://www.amazon.com/Getting-Started-Lazarus-Free-Pascal- ebook/dp/B00SL3ZUZS The Amazon listing linked above contains some sample pages from the book. Based on those sample pages and a lack of truly independent meaningful reviews, I decided not to purchase it, at least for the present time.  There is only one review that appears to be truly independent, but it's from an individual who seems to rate everything as five star, which I discounted. Additional reviews may change my mind. I'm not suggesting that anyone should decide not to purchase it because that is my choice, but for those interested, the sample pages provide an excellent insight into how the author approaches the subject and his writing style and authoring abilities. And for those who do purchase and have an Amazon account, it would be great if you could add your own review. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Septe · 2015-03-30 02:30 I, too, looked through the sample pages.  I was cringing.  I do not want to read a 320+ page book of similar pages, nor do I think an entry level book needs that many pages.  But I do know that some people think size matters and that all of this is just my opinion.  I will not be picking this book up. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- jwdietrich · 2015-04-01 07:44 After so much controversy I will buy it and take a look myself. Generally, every book on Lazarus and Free Pascal is welcome. Of course, quality matters and differs, and this is already the case with existing books. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- marcov · 2015-04-01 09:40 (I removed the three accounts that used the same IP address because of socket puppeting and banned the IP). ---------------------------------------------------------------------- zbyna · 2015-04-02 18:44 I have bought this book. In my opinion it is an average book whose author may  be  good at coding but definitely not so good ať teaching. I am not a  friend of long code listing presented in books and this learning materiál is based on rewriting code from book to computer. There is a warning from author in preface but I refuse to type 4 or 5 pages of code to dive deeper into arrays or records. The worse thing from my point of view is that graphic presentation, I mean fonts, pictures, tables is wierd. It sinks the book under average level. Since I still have not written any book I may be wrong and consider my review as personal opinion I do not recommend this book.
