Delphi Community Edition? lazarus / 8-Other ---------------------------------------------------------------------- dmytron · 2015-02-15 15:25 Quote While Visual Studio Community edition is clearly a much better deal for young developers than the Express editions were, for most professional developers it doesn't change a lot, since they still have to buy the fully licensed version if they work in a larger company or need to build software for one. Having said this, we are considering a license restricted free or low cost edition. The war was lost in the mid 90' by Borland(with the help of Microsoft). Long live Lazarus! ---------------------------------------------------------------------- JD · 2015-02-15 17:10 I was a casual Visual Basic user when I discovered Delphi in 2001. I was immediately drawn to it because I could create standalone exécutables without worrying about missing ocx dependencies associated with Visual Basic. I also discovered an early version of Lazarus that year but I did not start using it until 2009. Having said that, I have to confess that Visual Studio Community 2013 blew me away. I never liked the Express versions of Visual Studio so VS Community 2013 was a surprise to me. I have to confess that I downloaded the ISO; a hefty 6.9GB download. I also downloaded RAD Studio XE7 (arguably the best since Delphi 7). I installed both of them & I have to confess that while they both have the same disk footprint (20GB), VS Community 2013 looks more professional. I have given up on Embarcadero. I know guys like Marco Cantu, Cary Jensen, Andreano Lanusse & others are doing their best. I still follow their CodeRage videos. However you only need to follow the DelphiHatersBlog http://delphihaters.blogspot.com/ to see the flaws in Embarcadero's market strategy. I know it isn't a fair fight because Microsoft is a colossus but I honestly think the only real competition to Microsoft's development tools are in the Open Source community - Java, Lazarus, Python, WordPress, wxWidgets etc. These are just a few of the competitors to C#, Visual Basic.NET, ASP.NET, ADO.NET & I think it was this realization that led Microsoft to push out a community version of Visual Studio to attract developers that prefer open source tools. JD ---------------------------------------------------------------------- tr_escape · 2015-02-15 17:20 Hello , Actually this forum isn't Embercadero's or Delphi's forum. But in my humble advice to Embercadero ; express edition method is a good idea. If young people can reach easyly Delphi software they will learn this software. Unfortunately in 30 days you can't finalise any project ... Also young people have to earn some money with a project or maybe few project. Actually at first maybe you can't earn as well as like some social media sites . (I don't know how can I say )  But when this young people will became old people and will work in a or a lot of companies. And they will buy new a copy of Delphi Proffesional version. So this method working for Lazarus community edition.
