Though I do not know how it will be in your country/city. It has kept me alive for some decades. But otherwise this forum may not be best suited for your needs.    **** I am NO expert, **** but your lack (or doubt)  of motivation is *not* something that needs advice from programmers. Your description sounds a bit like http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Savantism I know people with similar/linked syndromes (like add/adhd). Some of them very successful. (But it was not always easy for them) What you experience (lack of interest in other topics) , may just be a temporary thing. This can happen in young people while they grow up, and go away after a few years. But there are also many known conditions leading to similar effects (and some are linked to savantism). I would advice to ask your parents to get you to talk to a qualified expert on that topic. (Someone at your school (teachers), or your doctor(GP) may have an address) "Knowing" yourself is the first step to your personal success. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- typo · 2014-01-05 20:46 Youth is a very difficult period of life, in which you is divided between satisfying others or satisfying yourself. Be careful, think about your needs, the needs of your family, and go ahead. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- jwdietrich · 2014-01-06 00:11 I don't think it is Savantism. It is the normal enthusiasm of a 16 year old, who doesn't want to fiddle with anything else before he has sufficiently explored his current playground. Srgjan-LDTeam, don't give up. It may be that software development will be your vocation. But don't forget that the rest of the world is also interesting. When I was 16 years old, I was also interested in programming and hardly in anything else. Later I decided not to do full-time software development or computer science, but turned to a classical academic degree. Again years later my knowledge in software development turned out to be very useful for my professional career, and today it is a key component of my scientific work that is in its core far away from computer science. Therefore it was not bad that I spent months and years with programming, although my parents were worried back then. Today my oldest son is 16 years old, and his sole interest seems to be hacking and writing Unix shell scripts... I don't think that it is bad to deeply delve in a subject, especially programming. But you should try to keep the doors open to other areas of life, where your experience may still be precious. Actually, nearly everything can be interesting in its proper time. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Fred vS · 2014-01-06 17:49 @ Srgjan-LDTeam . The only thing that im sure about programming : it gives me highest satisfaction when my procedure is working like i want, after hours of brain-storming and loosing lot of hair. So, motivation is always there, after many years of programming. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Srgjan-LDTeam · 2014-01-07 14:23 thanks everyone, i really appriciate your answers this is the most right.. and thats why im afraid of.... My advice it's easy. If you don't find motivation developing, then, you don't like develop. There are a lot of things you can do developing. Help Lazarus/Freepascla team. Brook, and a lot of projects related to this project. Not directly related to Freepascal/Lazarus, you can research on nodejs, Javascript. There a lot of things to do. I usually get boring of develop, but this is due to being tired, or too much time with the same project/bug etc... I hope you find the path to the force. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- vfclists · 2014-01-07 16:25 If you are going to be a good programmer you should develop more self- discipline, especially if you want to study Computing Science at a university. There are many aspects of CS which have to be formally taught, ie if your university has a good CS  curriculum and they will involve more time thinking with pen and paper than hacking on a computer. You can either learn these properly in a class with exercises or learn them informally as you practice your hacking. Check out this gaming related thread. http://blog.codecombat.com/we- have-open-sourced-everything. It mentions the CS subjects that are useful in that field. quoted below. QuoteOr, if you’re into compilers, programming languages, physics simulations, geometry, design, user experience, AI, performance tuning, audio processing, RTS games, RPGs, i18n / L10n, security, 2.5D vector graphics, TDD, databases, voice/video chat, IDEs, or debuggers, then you will love hacking on this project. With cool tech, detailed issues, extensive developer documentation, a friendly dev setup script, and the CodeCombat team ready to help you implement your ideas, this is the perfect open source game to get into. Don’t be shy! It gives you a good idea of the stuff an 'ace' hacker ought to know. It is up you to decide whether you get acquainted with that kind of stuff in a CS class or learning by doing on your own PC, but your personality seems inclined towards the latter and that might help you advertise your skills to good employers. A CS course give you the chance to hang out with a lot of bright people, make good friends and acquire a lot of life experiences which go beyond the curriculum. If you can combine the two that is even better. Either way you will require persistence and self-discipline. Good luck to you.
