Opensource IconEditor lazarus / 8-Other ---------------------------------------------------------------------- BenJones · 2013-10-16 23:26 hi, I was looking around for a good free editor since all the ones I found you had to pay for anyway after some looking around. I came across one called GreenFish Icon editor. not only did I find this free but also open-source and made in Lazarus. Anyway I thought I share my find with you all. Here the blog page: http://greenfishsoftware.blogspot.co.uk/2012/07/greenfish-icon-editor- pro.html ---------------------------------------------------------------------- eny · 2013-10-17 18:27 Looks quite nice. Unfortunately the source code is only available via an installer and not as a separate download. That moves it way down on my list of software to evaluate... ---------------------------------------------------------------------- taazz · 2013-10-17 18:38 why don't you download the portable edition? It is a zip file that has the source included and no installer is harmed in the process of decompressing. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- eny · 2013-10-17 20:35 Quote from: taazz on October 17, 2013, 08:38:21 pmwhy don't you download the portable edition? Now I see it's in the root of the archive. Hidden in plain sight ---------------------------------------------------------------------- andre72 · 2013-12-11 14:52 MALWARE WARNING - BEWARE I went to download, and because I had seen the link in this forum, and therefore had a 'Lazarus' stamp on it, I was careless enough to click on through the first install screen. If you click on without reading the fine print, their downloader will install SearchNewTab, Surf And Keep  malware (and more if I hadn't interrupted the process). SearchNewTab is a bad piece of news, and installs itself in many different locations as well as the registry. I spent 2-3 hours cleaning up the mess, and I'm still not 100% sure all of it has been removed. As a free icon editor, it appears to be good, but I'm pissed off, and I'm being polite   . ---------------------------------------------------------------------- jwdietrich · 2013-12-11 17:28 Interestingly, SoftPedia has certified the software as being 100% malware-free, but it was last tested in February 2012. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- taazz · 2013-12-11 18:18 I don't remember seeing anything like that when I installed it my self, in any case there is a portable version that does not have any installation you can simple decompress it. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- ausdigi · 2013-12-11 23:29 On the download page there is a check-box "Use our download manager and get recommended downloads", which is perhaps what contained the malware. Unchecking that option seemed to download a clean package. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- andre72 · 2013-12-12 13:14 Quote from: ausdigi on December 12, 2013, 12:29:51 amOn the download page there is a check-box "Use our download manager and get recommended downloads", which is perhaps what contained the malware. Unchecking that option seemed to download a clean package. Yes. The point is that I was careless because and clicked through the first install screen _without_ unchecking that option. Furthermore, when further 'recommended downloads' are proposed, the "Decline" option is hardly visible as a minute gray-on-gray label. Otherwise, the icon editor itself may be malware free. And yes, the source code is there, and includes Lazarus and C files.
