SourceForge Alternative lazarus / 8-Other ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Windsurfer · 2013-03-12 19:21 I used to use SourceForge a lot (15 to 20 years ago) but recently saw a post saying that people from countries considered dubious by the USA such as Sudan, could not get access to it. I am partway through a GPS display program that I will put into the pubic domain, and want to make sure that it will be available to all. I have seen other extremely good Lazarus based applications and components that were posted in the strangest places. In each case the author said they could not post to SourceForge. Can anyone suggest such a forum or site? ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Martin_fr · 2013-03-12 20:00 The "some country restriction" at sourceforge can be switched off on a per project base. It is a legal requirement in the U.S., and part of the T&C of SF, if and only IF your cod contains specific technologies like encryption (list available at SF). FPC (and therefore Lazarus too) contains an implementation of Blowfish. Some authors can not use SourceForge, because there only internet is at work, and the firewall there limits them. Or they may be in a country that blocks their people (though I have not heard that regarding SF yet) ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Leledumbo · 2013-03-12 21:50 Try google code, bitbucket or github. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- BigChimp · 2013-03-13 06:11 I'd second what Leledumbo said. I've had good experiences with bitbucket; others I'm sure have the same with github and Google code. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- jwdietrich · 2013-03-13 07:07 You  might also want to try Berlios (http://www.berlios.de for more info or http://sourcewell.berlios.de for their open-source repository). ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Graeme · 2013-03-13 14:07 Github is excellent, and also offers things other than just a code repository. You also have a developer web page, project web page, project wiki, bug tracking, code browser with annotation support etc. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- marcov · 2013-03-16 16:38 Quote from: Graeme on March 13, 2013, 03:07:39 pmGithub is excellent, and also offers things other than just a code repository. The issue was if they are US hosted, and thus must obey under the silly DoD export rules. That also goes for the other (Google and codeplex) options. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- jwdietrich · 2013-03-16 16:51 Quote from: marcov on March 16, 2013, 05:38:22 pmQuote from: Graeme on March 13, 2013, 03:07:39 pmGithub is excellent, and also offers things other than just a code repository. Unfortunately the site is offline for maintenance this weekend. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Graeme · 2013-03-19 09:30 Quote from: marcov on March 16, 2013, 05:38:22 pmThat's not the issue. The issue was if they are US hosted, I know they are a US company, but I think they host outside the USA, because searching their website and Google, I couldn't find any information that they restrict access to some countries. There is also no such option (like for SF projects) for git repositories. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- BigChimp · 2013-03-19 10:17 Quote from: Graeme on March 19, 2013, 10:30:58 amI know they are a US company, but I think they host outside the USA, because searching their website and Google, I couldn't find any information that they restrict access to some countries. There is also no such option (like for SF projects) for git repositories. That may also apply to others. I've never had any questions about encryption etc on Bitbucket...
