TIOBE index Pascal more popular then Delphi lazarus / 8-Other ---------------------------------------------------------------------- ttomas · 2013-01-18 20:59 http://www.tiobe.com/index.php/content/paperinfo/tpci/index.html I don't agree with separation of Pascal and Delphi/Object Pascal, but usually Pascal mean FreePascal. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Blaazen · 2013-01-18 21:18 It was even worse in past. There were three categories: Delphi, ObjectPascal and Pascal. IIRC one of members of this forum sent a request there and they moved ObjectPascal and Delphi together. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- DelphiFreak · 2013-01-18 21:59 Hi, I prefer this one. http://lang-index.sourceforge.net/ It's open-source and you can create your own stats if you like ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Leledumbo · 2013-01-18 22:00 My initial request was actually to merge all three as one, TIOBE claims that separation due to individual entries on wikipedia and other sources they use. I then said they should separate C, C++ and Java then, since there are entries for M$, IBM, GNU, etc. versions that implement the same base language with extensions. Finally they only merge Delphi and Object Pascal, because what they mean by Pascal is its procedural only dialect present in the standard. Well, to be honest, (nearly) no standard Pascal implementation is alive today and that procedural dialect is still alive in the OO dialect, which makes the OO dialect an extension over the procedural. So there should be no reason to separate the two. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- User137 · 2013-01-18 23:53 The Pascal index there is definitely faulty. Pascal category (without OOP) should have hardly any votes at all. Every Lazarus application goes to Object Pascal category... ---------------------------------------------------------------------- marcov · 2013-02-01 18:44 Personally, I think the main problem is that people take TIOBE seriously :-)
