The server software market is moving towards embedded appliances and VM. lazarus / 8-Other ---------------------------------------------------------------------- jl · 2011-07-01 08:21 I don't know about the US or Europe, but the server software market in Asia Pacific is moving towards embedded appliances or VM. I estimate that by 2016, everyone will be asking for embedded appliance or *nix VM.  This is the reason why I had to port my application to FPC compatible, not because the platform is open source. If your server software is coded in Delphi, you're in luck because it can be ported to *nix, but if you using dot net, you might find yourself in the unenviable position of a Symbian software company within 5 years. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- JD · 2011-07-01 08:42 Quote from: touchring on July 01, 2011, 10:21:20 amIf your server software is coded in Delphi, you're in luck because it can be ported to *nix, but if you using dot net, you might find yourself in the position of a Symbian software company within 5 years.    Phew! ---------------------------------------------------------------------- jl · 2011-07-01 08:50 The iphone, ipad, and ibook craze convinced me that the paradigm can change faster than anyone of us here can imagine. I would imagine that Apple will come up with an iServer next, by then all Enterprise developers will be scrambling to convert their software.  It will be chaotic.
