Memo columns etc PART 2 lazarus / 8-Other ---------------------------------------------------------------------- MikeFinch · 2009-07-28 00:08 Further to my recent note, I have noticed - before running - that in Windows lazarus my memo form displays a vertical scrollbar but the linux version doesn't (ScrollBars is ssVertical in both cases). There's no columns property for memo (as in Delphi) but (when run) my windows lazarus version displays multiple columns (as desired) but I get only one column in linux. WHY? A horizontal scrollbar appears for the former (of course). Why does this work for ScrollBars : ssVertical?? Seems crazy to me. Also, as hinted before, the (main) form holding the memoform shows no icons ('-','x','[square]') in the top righthand corner in the Windows lazarus case, but DOES in the linux format (BorderIcons is [] in both cases). The running linux program also contains many unwanted x - etc icons. There are also one or two differences in properties for these forms between windows & linux. It seems obvious that the developers have neglected linux in favour of windows; it is linux versions of my programs I wish to showoff rather than windows, to help to support linux use!! ARE THE LINUX LAZARUS DEVELOPERS INTERESTED IN IMPROVING THE SITUATION? Linux ComboBoxes are also in need of improvement (as I stated in my previous submission). ANOTHER PROBLEM I have is that my linux programs can't see files in the same folder as the executable : I'm sure this is a PATH adjustment needed at compile time, but how do I fix it? PLEASE..........!!! ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Martin_fr · 2009-07-28 21:57 You are right about the memo and it's already reported as a bug: http://bugs.freepascal.org/view.php?id=862 (for gtk). Not sure if any windows issues about memos are reported. I am not an expert about GTK/GTK2, but afaik this also depends on your window manager. Some window manager simply may not allow border icons to be hidden. (With one of the WM I use (xming build in), even the firefox about window has all 3 icons, and it should only have a close icon) If you do not want any border icons, you could try a different border style, which may lead to results. If you are sure your window manager does allow switching off border icons for the desired border style, then you may have found a bug. In any case it may help (it may or it may not) if you give a few more details: - version of lazarus you use - Gtk1 or GTK2 - which linux, which window manager - small sample application, that people can test on their system If you are in a bit of desperation to get answers (unless your caps lock key malfunctioned ) you could also join the mailing list. It does not guarantee any results, but it will bring your question to even more people. With the path issue, you probably also have a better chance of success, if you supply a few lines of code, that you tried, or the error message you get. Have you tried ExtractFileDir(Application.ExeName); ---------------------------------------------------------------------- MikeFinch · 2009-08-08 02:15 Martin_fr : a bit late responding to you! I meant TListBox not TMemo as you may be aware from my later posts. Hopefully you have followed the issue(s) I have raised? (Under Linux Problems). I haven't yet tried to add code so that I can access my database etc. How would I simply "ask" the executable to recognise files in the current folder (as in Windows)? In a nutshell : my (2 favourite) Windows Lazarus programs work well, but I have problems (as I've outlined) with the linux equivalents. I complain about relative lack of development in linux, but this may not be fair. Don't know. Maybe you have some comments on all of this?
