XML serialisation for saving settings lazarus / 8-Other ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Moz · 2009-05-22 07:15 I'm used to using a storage object for saving settings to reduce duplicate code - rather than each new setting needing to be added in the variable it's used in, the read method, the write method and the help method(s) it's just added to the storage object. That storage object is then streamed in and out as part of program startup/shutdown. The XMLCfg/XMLConf duplicate units only seem to support the code-intensive way. There's a heap of stuff in lazarus/fpc, but I'm struggling to find documentation and make it work - I'm effectively using grep instead of help. The xmlstreaming example is useful and I have a derivative of that  working using laz_XMLStreaming, but there's a lot of overhead (I need a helper class purely to hold OnFindComponentClass, for example) that I don't think should be there. I suspect I'm using internal Laz code that's way more complex than i really need, but i can't see a simpler way with what's there. Specifically I'm looking for SaveObjectToXML and LoadObjectFromXML procedures that accept just a filename and a TPersistent reference to load or save. Any suggestions much appreciated.
