Using Synapse email to a SSL server

Hi
With the windows version of Lazarus, i am trying to use the synapse
tsmtpsend to send a email via gmail, which is SSL
but its not working....
  myemail.AutoTLS:=true;
  myemail.FullSSL:=true;
  myemail.StartTLS();

that returns
220 2.0.0 Ready to start TLS

but then nothing more happens
i.e its not then doing the rest (mailfrom, mailto, maildata) functions

what I am doing wrong?
