How to introduce a delay without locking up other processes lazarus / 8-Other ---------------------------------------------------------------------- newman · 2008-06-05 03:38 Hi, I am using the synaser serial port class to transmit data to a device. The device accepts data only when it is streamed out at a slow pace. So I intend to introduce a delay between the transmits. I made a delay loop with a timer. The delay loops around until a flag is set, this flag is set when the timer events comes. I have used the Application.processMessages so that the delay does not lock up other processes. The problem is that the delay routine sometime causes the transmit to go haywire, so the data is not sent in the correct format... Sometimes the system works well, but it is still far from reliable. I am not sure what is causing this problem. Is it possible that the delay loop does not allow the transmit to end ??? Kindly advise thanks arunb ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Vincent Snijders · 2008-06-05 13:08 Maybe you can use Sleep instead of a timer. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- newman · 2008-06-06 14:51 Will it not lock up the serial port receive process in synaser ?? I dont know why synaser works only sometimes ??, I tested the same code and device using VB and it worked well. It seems there is a problem with synaser, also can anyone tell me how I can make RTS pin high using synaser ??? thanks new
