Why PP extension name?

I know it not that good question, but my mind always ask why .pp for
free pascal, from where the P come from  .

I found this with google:

.p already existed on macintosh pascal dialects, so I guess .pp was
just to create a unique file extension for free pascal.

When i am surfing in Delphi7 source i found something named PUREPASCAL
in system.pas
that before i work with FPC, now every time i see PP my brain say
PUREPASCAL. for that i asked this question.
