Forum SW asks for cookies when trying to login lazarus / 8-Other ---------------------------------------------------------------------- JuhaManninen · 2025-09-20 19:52 I have installed Manjaro Linux on a laptop and opened this forum there with Firefox. OK. Then I click the Login link and it opens this page :  https://forum.lazarus.freepascal.org/cookies.html The same page opens if I click the Register link. I have not changed any settings related to cookies. I didn't even find any setting in Firefox that would help. I am writing this using my main computer which has the same Manjaro + Firefox combination. I haven't seen that cookie page earlier. Any ideas what is going on and how to fix it? ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Nitorami · 2025-09-20 20:01 https://forum.lazarus.freepascal.org/index.php/topic,72223.0.html ---------------------------------------------------------------------- n7800 · 2025-09-20 20:12 QuoteForum SW What does "SW" mean? ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Nitorami · 2025-09-20 20:20 "Software" ---------------------------------------------------------------------- LV · 2025-09-20 20:29 I'm tired of "dancing with tambourines"  :'(, so I made a utility for myself. Maybe it'll be useful for someone else. It currently works on Windows, but I believe it could be developed for Linux. Compile and run. Follow links by right-clicking and copying the link address. I had some free time this evening. I tested a cross-platform utility on five of my family's computers, each running a different operating system and browser (Firefox, Chrome, Edge). The login process worked flawlessly, and all links opened without any issues. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- JuhaManninen · 2025-09-22 08:48 On Saturday after some hassle I changed my forum password and then could not login from anywhere. Nice app anyways. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Jurassic Pork · 2025-09-22 11:46 hello, answer from ChatGpt : QuoteWhen you click any link on the Lazarus Free Pascal forum, you're redirected to: https://forum.lazarus.freepascal.org/cookies.html#new Instead of seeing the forum thread, you're taken to the cookies page. This usually means the forum requires you to accept cookies before letting you access other pages, and your browser isn't saving the cookie consent properly. ✅ What’s Going On? The forum uses a cookie consent mechanism to comply with GDPR. If cookie consent is not given (or the browser blocks it), the forum redirects you to /cookies.html#new. This prevents you from accessing any other page unless the consent is properly saved. 🛠️ How to Fix It 1. Accept Cookies on the Consent Page When you land on cookies.html#new, there should be a button or option to accept cookies. Click it and make sure it confirms your consent. If there’s a choice between “Essential only” and “All cookies”, choose either — but you need to click something to proceed. 2. Check Your Browser Settings Make sure: Cookies are enabled for this site (forum.lazarus.freepascal.org). You’re not using incognito/private mode, as some browsers block or clear cookies in this mode. JavaScript is enabled (some consent scripts use JS). 3. Disable Extensions (Temporarily) If you use: Ad blockers (AdBlock, uBlock Origin) Script blockers (NoScript, Ghostery) Privacy extensions (Privacy Badger) Temporarily disable them or whitelist the Lazarus forum. They may block the cookie script or prevent it from saving consent. 4. Clear Cookies for the Forum In your browser: Go to your cookies settings. Search for and delete any cookies for forum.lazarus.freepascal.org. Reload the forum, accept cookies again, and try navigating. 5. Try Another Browser or Device Use Chrome, Firefox, or Edge. Try on another computer, tablet, or phone. This can help determine whether the issue is with your browser settings or the forum itself. 6. If All Else Fails It could be a bug on the forum side or a compatibility issue with your browser. You can: Contact the forum administrator. Post in the Support or Website Issues section of the Lazarus forum (if you can access it). Mention your browser version, operating system, and any blockers/extensions you use. It seems that the button to accept the cookies isn't on the Cookies page. Where do you accept the cookies ? Please don't post two-page quotes from word generator AI. It provides an answer for a "privacy feature" which many websites actually have. But this website requires cookies as part of its anti-bot protection. The irony is that if the cookie requirement is removed, users will still be unable to access the site due to DDoS )) I hope the developers will correct me if I've misunderstood the situation. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- PascalDragon · 2025-09-22 20:15 Quote from: Jurassic Pork on September 22, 2025, 01:58:43 pmin many sites the first time you login , you have a page to accept the cookies (or not)  , it seems that on this forum , there isn't this feature ? Such functionality is only required due to GPDR if there are cookies that go beyond the functionally necessary (e.g. adds, statistics, etc.). Considering that the forum software only uses session cookies for essential functionality to cookie banner is necessary. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Bart · 2025-09-25 17:29 So now I have this problem too. On my Linux Mint (on real hardware now) with FF 143.0.1 (the same version as I have on Win11) I cannot access any page on the forum (and of course I get the same when trying to log in). AFAIK FF does not block cookies by default, it will block trackers by default (social media, cross-site , cryptominers, fingerprinters) I even went so far as to add the forum site to the exclusions, so FF will not block anything. Restarting FF after this does not help. When I go to manage cookies in FF it show it has stored a cookie from the forum site. I can however open a page when I open it in an "in private" window. I did not see a solution for this problem yet? Bart ---------------------------------------------------------------------- dbannon · 2025-09-26 02:25 Yes, I can confirm that on a Linux Mint VM. But also Debian Trixie which runs FF 128.14.0., almost the same as what works perfectly for me on my Debian Bookworm.    I wonder if the problem relates to making a new cookie, if its there already, from before the change was made to at freepascal.org, its OK ?  Not sure I want to blow the cookies away on my active machine, will be home tomorrow and do a test on a 'spare' one. EDIT : yes, confirmed. Even 128.3.1 in an old bookworm (that had never connected to our forum) is unable to connect. No new connects!
