GLScene will NOT install from lpk files?! lazarus / 70-OpenGL ---------------------------------------------------------------------- LarryP · 2014-09-07 21:07 Here are the two errors I get when running glscene_designtime.lpk, or any other lpk file in the Lazarus directory inside GLScene_v1.2_July_2013 directory: E:\lazarus\components\GLScene_v1.2_July_2013\Source\GLSLog.pas(606,40) Error: Incompatible type for arg no. 5: Got "TMsgDlgBtn", expected "AnsiString" E:\lazarus\components\GLScene_v1.2_July_2013\Source\GLSLog.pas(1292) Fatal: There were 1 errors compiling module, stopping Are there known issues with GLScene installing into Lazarus? ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Leledumbo · 2014-09-08 03:43 Looking at the date, there perhaps incompatibility with current release version of Lazarus. Try its svn snapshots. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- LarryP · 2014-09-08 16:33 I installed the "massreplace" file which updates all out of date files, made no difference.  Now I get the errors that it fails to compile.  This is supposed to be easy... ---------------------------------------------------------------------- BigChimp · 2014-09-08 16:35 Why not look at the wiki page first: http://wiki.lazarus.freepascal.org/GLScene#Download As Leledumbo says, it looks the svn download may be the only one that's possibly reasonably up to date. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Rails · 2014-09-08 18:23 I don't know is this will be helpful, but the latest version of GLScene appears to be here: http://sourceforge.net/projects/glscene/files/SVN%20Snapshots/5991/ There are Lazarus packages included. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- BigChimp · 2014-09-08 18:33 Those snapshots appear to be from 2011. SVN has progressed since then apparently, see https://sourceforge.net/p/glscene/code/HEAD/tree/trunk/Lazarus/ ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Rails · 2014-09-08 19:44 Quote from: BigChimp on September 08, 2014, 08:33:58 pmThose snapshots appear to be from 2011. At least some of the contents also appear to have been updated at late as this March. The Lazarus specific stuff has at least some dates in 2013, FWIW. Not sure what all this means to the OP, but thought I would mention it. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- LarryP · 2014-09-08 21:07 Quote from: BigChimp on September 08, 2014, 08:33:58 pmThose snapshots appear to be from 2011. Up one folder, and you can easily see that the latest snapshot is this, dated march this year. Anyway, even the latest svn commit doesn't work. I wonder whether they really test before each commit. I've done some required modifications but I end up in missing LCLQt context. Looks like they haven't supported Qt interface yet. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Rails · 2014-09-09 10:23 Quote from: Leledumbo on September 09, 2014, 07:37:49 am Up one folder, and you can easily see that the latest snapshot is this, dated march this year. The OP says that's the one he tried, ---------------------------------------------------------------------- LarryP · 2014-09-09 13:32 Well, this is a huge let down.  I also worked with CodeTyphon yesterday, their new 5.0 version.  That is really a buggy mess!  A recompile of the IDE and OPenGL had errors.  Most every example I ran locked up the IDE too.  I was hoping to get back into Pascal but I'm spending too much time fixing IDE issues.  So, maybe back to C# from here. Thanks! ---------------------------------------------------------------------- noname01 · 2014-09-09 14:01 Try with GLScene Revision 6383 from trunk ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Leledumbo · 2014-09-09 15:43 Quote from: LarryP on September 09, 2014, 03:32:11 pmWell, this is a huge let down. Thanks! Using CodeTyphon alone is already a mistake from my point of view. You are simply using development version of both compiler and IDE which has no guarantee of even working, sometimes not even compilable. Feel free to go back to C#, people with existing background tend to go back to what (s)he's used to during adaptation period. Just like some years old Windows user given a Linux machine for the first time. I call them evolution victim, because they fail to adapt to changes ---------------------------------------------------------------------- LarryP · 2014-09-09 16:22 I have the  latest mass-replace.  Won't install.  Thanks though! ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Rails · 2014-09-09 17:12 Quote from: LarryP on September 09, 2014, 03:32:11 pm   I was hoping to get back into Pascal but I'm spending too much time fixing IDE issues. Well, there is quite a learning curve between TurboPascal and today's ObjectPascal, let alone adding the complexities of the Lazarus IDE and component library. If GLScene isn't ready for Lazarus these days, there are other graphics libraries out there.  Consider posting your goals with Lazarus (kind of application(s), etc., target environments, and so on) and see what others suggest. Most people here are quite helpful, and many have been where you are now. Can't hurt. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- LarryP · 2014-09-09 18:31 Good advice.  I will look at other graphics options.  Castle is one of them. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- LarryP · 2014-09-10 00:19 Quote from: Leledumbo on September 09, 2014, 05:43:22 pmUsing CodeTyphon alone is already a mistake from my point of view. That's another mistake. Working on a project using an environment you're not used to (even used to alone is not enough, you have to master it). ---------------------------------------------------------------------- ideabrush · 2014-09-10 07:11 Have you tried the latest from SVN trunk, right now at [r6460]? http://sourceforge.net/p/glscene/code/HEAD/tree/ FYI, after I install CodeTyphon 5.0, I am able to run at least one GLScene sample from their CodeOcean sample folder, using the 32-bit "BigIDE" options (The "BigIDE" has the GLScene package already installed). ---------------------------------------------------------------------- LarryP · 2014-09-10 13:23 Quote from: ideabrush on September 10, 2014, 09:11:47 amHave you tried the latest from SVN trunk, right now at [r6460]? http://sourceforge.net/p/glscene/code/HEAD/tree/ FYI, after I install CodeTyphon 5.0, I am able to run at least one GLScene sample from their CodeOcean sample folder, using the 32-bit "BigIDE" options (The "BigIDE" has the GLScene package already installed). Thanks for the information.  I was able to run some examples and they worked fine.  However, many did not and closed the IDE.  I wish CodeTyphon would work better as it has a ton of good tools.  I will try that link right now and see how i t does.  Thanks again!
