Compiling the IDE lazarus / 6-IDE-CodeTools ---------------------------------------------------------------------- kdtop · 2010-10-29 21:37 Hello all.  First time poster. I am a long time Delphi user, and just have gotten Lazarus.  Great work guys! Can someone point me to instructions for compiling the IDE on windows?  I see the make file, but that seems to apply to a linux/mac environment.  I'm not sure how to achieve that on Windows. Thanks! Kevin ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Martin_fr · 2010-10-29 22:52 Well you can use the makefile on windows, since "make" is in the fpc/bin directory. But you don't have to. Your installation should come with a pre-compiled exe. To rebuild it, loo at the "Tools" menu. The last entry is to rebuild Lazarus. Your old exe wil be renamed Lazarus.old.exe => so if anything went wrong... (not to be expected, but if) ---------------------------------------------------------------------- kdtop · 2010-10-31 00:50 Martin, Thank you for your reply.  What I was really wanting was to take the IDE and customize it for my own purposes.  I need to develop a database application (using a NO-SQL type database), and I wanted to have a IDE-type interface, with drop-able field, buttons etc.  Kind of like what MS Access already does.  I thought using the Lazarus front end might be possible. So you have told me how to make it from the command line.  I take it that there is no project file to open and compile the IDE from inside the IDE? Thanks again, Kevin ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Laksen · 2010-10-31 09:57 So you want a customized Lazarus that designs database relations instead of forms? I don't think that's a good idea to pursue, since I believe the Lazarus frontend is pretty huge and intertwined What I think would be a better idea, would be to use the TTIPropertyGrid component and user drawn components to mimic a form designer ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Martin_fr · 2010-10-31 11:58 Quote from: kdtop on October 31, 2010, 02:50:01 amSo you have told me how to make it from the command line.  I take it that there is no project file to open and compile the IDE from inside the IDE? What about my explanation of the "tools" menu in the IDE? That does rebuild the IDE from inside the IDE. Just select "configure build lazarus" form the tools menu Once your settings are as you like, you can select "build lazarus..." from the tools menu ---------------------------------------------------------------------- kdtop · 2010-10-31 15:28 Martin and Laksen, Thank you for your replies.  I will consider what you have said and decide which way to go.
