Sounds in Lazarus lazarus / 6-IDE-CodeTools ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Erling · 2009-10-22 23:35 Hi, I'm new here. I've been programming in Modula-2 earlier, can't find a good Modula-2 programminglanguage anywhere on the net. When I looked at this, I found it really good, because pascal is nearly the same as Modula-2... Therefore, I find it very easy to learn, because of my Modula-2 background. A super choise for me, in many ways, and I like it, BUT:: There is one thing I miss in Lazarus. Sounds. No mp3-player, not even a little noteplayer, the only sound-procedure I find, is "beep"...! Nothing for music-enthusiasts. And eventhough you're gonna create music-applications or not, SOUNDS ARE VERY USEFUL, for example I like to make a little "click" to confirm that user has pressed a key, or pushed a button, or whatever. Now, have I lost something? Does anyone know a procedure to play a mp3-file, without shell'ing "windows media player"? Does there exist procedures to play simple notes, with different samples/instruments? Someone tell me that "media procedures come soon". How soon? When can I expect it? Regards Erling from Norway. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Troodon · 2009-10-23 00:09 you can play wav files on both windows and linux, search this forum for "sound" or "wav". ---------------------------------------------------------------------- davesimplewear · 2009-10-23 00:54 There is a component called mPlayer2 available in the CCR which plays multimedia files and also webcam. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Bandbaz · 2009-11-21 11:39 I couldn't find it. Can you please write the URL? Does it work cross platform? Linux, Windows, Mac? ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Blaazen · 2009-11-21 12:59 There are also Audio Component Suite (ACS) available on http://wiki.lazarus.freepascal.org/ACS. But I don't know if development continues, for example there is no support of pulseaudio on Linux, only alsa is supported (when I tried it last time). Pascal used to be more different from Modula-2 until its Module concept wasn't "borrowed" from it for Object Pascal Units Of course, both languages were designed by Niklaus Wirth, so the similarity is understandable, Modula-2 could be viewed as Pascal's younger sibling. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- davesimplewear · 2009-11-21 21:44 if you pm me your emai address I will send the mplayer2 to you, don't remember the url ---------------------------------------------------------------------- jmg · 2009-11-21 23:03 Quote from: Erling on October 23, 2009, 01:35:35 amThere is one thing I miss in Lazarus. There is some very good resource here http://www.delphiforfun.org/Programs/index.htm It is coded in Delphi, but I am porting some examples to Lazarus Two that should give you what you need are : http://www.delphiforfun.org/Programs/metronome.htm http://www.delphiforfun.org/Programs/SoundGen.htm  I've attached the Porting of Metronome, which includes the Starting source, Delphi-to-Lazarus pathway notes, and a Lazarus Directory image.  This converted code includes a bug-fix, and number of notes on precision, and nicely shows the limitations of Loop timing in Windows SW calls.
