How to use Param macro (code templates)

Can anyone give an example of Param macro usage in a template
definition? The wiki has an example, but it doesn't show the
definition.

$param(variable) := $param(typename).Create;
try
  |
finally
  $param(variable,sync=1).Free;
end;


The IDE contains this updated macro, but unfortunately if you ever
added/edited one of the macros in the IDE, it has saved all of them at
this state, and will not update them. (unless you delete the config
file)
