Roadmap questions lazarus / 6-IDE-CodeTools ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Stephano · 2007-04-19 20:34 What is the current status of the following features: 1- Internal linker 2- Dynamic packages (a la Delphi way) 3- Visual form inheritance 4- TIcon implementation What should the approximate compile & link time be for a form with a single button (that does nothing)? I just want to check if there is something wrong with my setup: 10 seconds on a 3GHz/1GB RAM Windows machine from the time I press the run button until the form pops up. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- felipemdc · 2007-04-19 21:40 Quote from: "Stephano"What is the current status of the following features: 1- Internal linker Done. But it´s not on the 2.0.4 compiler, it´s only on the 2.2 compiler which is on stabilization phase now. > 2- Dynamic packages (a la Delphi way) I think there was some sucess with that, but it´s not functional yet > 3- Visual form inheritance Someone already posted a bounty for this, however things doesn´t seam to have improved much > 4- TIcon implementation Still not implemented QuoteWhat should the approximate compile & link time be for a form with a single button (that does nothing)? I just want to check if there is something wrong with my setup: 10 seconds on a 3GHz/1GB RAM Windows machine from the time I press the run button until the form pops up. That´s correct. It´s really slow on Windows. On Linux it should be maybe 1 or 2 seconds the full time. But it should be much faster on windows if one uses the internal linker, but then again it doesn´t exist on 2.0.4, only on 2.2 which is on stabilization phase for the release. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- felipemdc · 2007-04-19 21:45 Ah, of course, the standard disclaimer: If you need any of the non- implemented things urgently I suggest that you either submit a patch or create a bounty =) ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Stephano · 2007-04-19 23:47 Thx for the standard disclaimer tip Seriously speaking, I had submitted a few minor patches that fall within my limited understanding of the internals of Lazarus... my 2 cents contribution to a great project. As for compilation and link time, I had tried on a Linux box 1GHz/256MB RAM, and IIRC it took almost as long. I should double check that though. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- felipemdc · 2007-04-20 04:40 Quote from: "Stephano"As for compilation and link time, I had tried on a Linux box 1GHz/256MB RAM, and IIRC it took almost as long. I should double check that though. Well, you are saying that on a 1GHz/256 ram machine on linux it was a little faster then with 3GHz/1GB RAM on windows. So, isn´t it much quicker on linux? Because the machine is so much better for windows. I have a 1GHz/256ram notebook and on windows the full process takes 30 seconds. On linux it´s 5 seconds or less. (same computer) Ah, and lot´s of people think this because they are used to Delphi, which is fastest compiler/linker package I have ever seen. If you programmed on c++ before you will think that Lazarus is quite fast =) Really, medium sized software on c++ takes up to half an hour to compile! Now, that´s slow!!!
