Source Editor as a Tool Window? lazarus / 6-IDE-CodeTools ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Spike · 2006-08-21 11:47 Why not Switch the Border Style of the Source Editor to bsToolWindow ? It should be consistent with the other editor windows. Also, on Windows XP using the Luna skin (e.g. not the classic win 9x-style skin), the Source Editor has a bigger border than the Object Inspector for example, and round borders, which leave alot of unused space. On another note, maybe you could implement window snapping in a future version? ---------------------------------------------------------------------- CCRDude · 2006-08-21 11:57 Border styles have a meaning. bsToolWindow borders are for tool windows, as the name says. The editor is not just a tool, but the main window ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Spike · 2006-08-21 16:34 No, it's not. The Main Window is the window that contains the menu, the toolbar and the component palette. You can't call the Editor a main window since you can close it and still be able to work to some extent using the other available windows. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- CCRDude · 2006-08-21 22:25 Well, I'm speaking about "main" in terms of usability, not functionality, since the GUI apperance is a usability factor, not a functionality factor ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Spike · 2006-08-22 07:46 Still, believe that it should be consistent with the design of all the other windows because currently, it's the only one (except the main window which we both agree needs to remain that way) that uses normal borders ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Spike · 2006-08-22 10:26 Actually, feel free to ignore both of my suggestions. I've found a really nifty program that snaps every window, and as for the the border, I took the sources and recompiled lazarus to suit my needs. You might want to add a feature to the Environment > Environment Options > Windows dialog to change the border. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- CCRDude · 2006-08-22 10:34 Hmm... I'm not anyone to ignore or disignore this, I'm just a user as well Anyway, take a look at Photoshop for example. There's the "main" MDI window and the window containing the image you're working on. Is this a case where the image window should be a toolbar as well? A "main" window is something with a System menu and Minimize/Maximize buttons. That alone is a reson for me to have the code window that way Using Ctrl+Space then press M to move a window for example is only possible with this style Since you mentioned a program that snaps any window, could you tell me its name? Sounds quite useful ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Spike · 2006-08-22 12:46 http://www.cs.utoronto.ca/~iheckman/allsnap/
