Updating fpspreadsheet lazarus / 49-FPSpreadsheet ---------------------------------------------------------------------- straetch · 2016-02-14 08:45 Following the advice on the topic "Copy font", I wanted to update fpspreadsheet. I made a new folder with the downloaded files, then opened the laz_fpspreadsheet package in lazarus and compiled (following the instructions for a new installation). However, the system still used the old version (proof: a breakpoint in an addressed fpspreadsheet function did not fire). To narrow down the problem, I did an uninstall of the laz_fpspreadsheet_visual package (I am not using it for the moment), reopened and compiled the laz_fpspreadsheet package again. Same problem. Eventually I found the fpspreadsheet unit contents in the lazarus components directory with the old version. I replaced the content of that directory with the new version download (a brute approach which I don't like). Now the new version is active and works fine. So, for the moment I can continue with the development of my project, but I am concerned with the current situation. For instance, the project file still points to stray units referencing previous installations. After all this agony I realise I should probably simply have updated laz_fpspreadsheet_visual. That would have also installed the new fpspreadsheet in the components folder of lazarus. So, uninstalling laz_fpspreadsheet_visual does uninstall the component except for the laz_fpspreadsheet part. Package laz_fpspreadsheet itself cannot be uninstalled from Lazarus. Now, my request is to give some easy instructions in the readme to update laz_fpspreadsheet in the cases where laz_fpspreadsheet_visual is installed or not. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- wp · 2016-02-14 10:08 It looks that you have compiled fpspreadsheet units scattered around on your disk. Did you add the path to fpspreadsheet to the search path of your project? Don't do this, add a requirement to laz_fpspreadsheet instead, this will keep the compiled files at their correct place. Delete all compiled fpspreadsheet units that you find in your project folder. In spite of this, I've seen occasional problem when switching from my usually used trunk version back to an older version. In this case both versions coexist on disk. The safest way to make sure that Lazarus uses a specific version go to "Package" / "Package links": For each vesion installed you'll find an entry in the list of packages. Set a checkmark to the versions that you don't want and "Delete selected". Then recompile laz_fpspreadsheet (of course, the one from the version that you want to use) or, in case of the visual components, rebuild Lazarus.
