Lazarus on Android lazarus / 43-Android ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Eugene Loza · 2015-05-11 09:02 Is there a possibility the Lazarus itself would be available for Android ever?  Not just cross-compile to Android, but to work natively in Android environment... ---------------------------------------------------------------------- zeljko · 2015-05-11 10:32 Maybe in distant future ---------------------------------------------------------------------- felipemdc · 2015-05-11 11:38 How will you create the APK and sign it without an Android SDK? I think this is impossible, and we can only support what the Android SDK supports: cross-compiling from Linux, Windows or Mac OS X. One could run something like Pascal Script instead if you want to write code on the fly in the device, I think that would be the way to go. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Eugene Loza · 2015-05-11 14:35 Checked for Pascal Script and found Pascal GUI. It's not free, but looks more developed. Thou, still not Lazarus...  It'd work only for simple programs not for a serious project debugging. Also PascalDevelop there. But all are very early-stage works... ---------------------------------------------------------------------- felipemdc · 2015-05-12 14:00 Quote from: Eugene Loza on May 11, 2015, 04:35:04 pmChecked for Pascal Script and found Pascal GUI. Yes, you are not supposed to do a serious project in a Android device ... In general: Mobile operating systems (like Android) cannot replace desktops. Mobile OSes are optimized for some particular tasks like entertainment, information, etc, they are not optimized (and therefore unproductive) for complex professional/work usage. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Handoko · 2015-08-11 13:53 The possibility of Lazarus running on Android is very high, I think. Lazarus development is pretty fast, thanks to contributions of lots of experts here. But I think that won't happen in the near future. For now, they will need to make it easier to build Android programs. Currently, the steps to build APKs is hard. Most novices will give up in the middle. I had spent lots of sleepless nights just to make it to produce a simple runable APK file. Pascal GUI and PascalDevelop seem interesting. But even if Lazarus for Android is available, I won't use it. I have love and hate feeling with smartphone. It's very hard to type text. I miss my old classic Nokia phone. Now I even bought a USB to mini-USB cable to allow me to type fast on my phone using a normal keyboard. I'm a serious computer user. I use a 22" monitor, and my OS is well configured to allow me to work efficiently. I type using 10 fingers, I use lot's of shortcuts. Lazarus on Android is a great concept, but it no use for me. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Paul Breneman · 2015-08-11 15:14 Someone did it in a way as written in this forum thread: http://forum.lazarus.freepascal.org/index.php/topic,23927.0.html ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Eugene Loza · 2015-08-12 04:28 QuoteNow I even bought a USB to mini-USB cable to allow me to type fast on my phone using a normal keyboard. And I've bought a Bluetooth keyboard for the same reason ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Handoko · 2015-08-12 06:08 Hi Eugene Loza. I visited your Project Helena's site. It seems great. You should make it available on Android, it would be great to see a game build with Lazarus that play on Android. What game engine or graphics library did you use to build Project Helena? ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Eugene Loza · 2015-08-12 16:52 Quote from: Handoko on August 12, 2015, 08:08:44 amWhat game engine or graphics library did you use to build Project Helena? Thanks for feedback Yes, I plan to cross-compile the game for android as soon as I rewrite the interface (I already have the idea how to make it more user- friendly and Android-friendly). I use Castle Game Engine for graphics and sound. I hope I'll be able to replace 2D graphics with simple 3D models soon . ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Handoko · 2015-08-12 17:17 Quote from: Eugene Loza on August 12, 2015, 06:52:35 pmI use Castle Game Engine for graphics and sound. I tried it to build Android app, but failed, because I'm new with Android app building process and I still have not read the instruction completely. If you ever need extra muscle, you can count me in. I'm good with Blender, Gimp, Inkscape and Web Design.
