Two questions regarding screen and display update

How can I get the Width and Height of the screen? Using Screen.Width
and Screen.Height (assigned for TForm.Width and TForm.Height
respectively at OnCreate) I don't seem to get the correct value as can
be seen in the screenshot.I do my first drawing in a menu item click
event, in the end calling Repaint/Invalidate, but the change is not
visible immediately. With or without Repaint/Invalidate, I have to
click on the form to make the change visible. How can I force this
from code?
