Venter Gamepack ? lazarus / 39-Graphics ---------------------------------------------------------------------- circular · 2011-02-25 22:49 Does anyone know here is Venter's Gamepack gone? Does anyone has a copy of it? ---------------------------------------------------------------------- PAEz · 2011-02-26 13:21 Maybe try getting in contact with the author through his blog or tweet?.... http://silentcoder.co.za/ http://twitter.com/ajventer ---------------------------------------------------------------------- circular · 2011-02-26 17:35 I can't find any contact link. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- PAEz · 2011-02-26 18:26 Sorry, there wasnt was there. I found his Facebook page and signed up to that gawd awfull service just so I could send him a message....hope something comes of it for you, I gave a link to this thread and gave him my email. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- circular · 2011-02-26 19:18 Wow thank you. I do not like either to go on facebook. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- PAEz · 2011-02-26 19:28 Unfortunately its not good news, in his reply email he states that he hasnt touched it in years and doesnt even have a copy anymore.  He also says that its all superfluous now anyway...sorry I cant paste his reply in word for word but he hasnt got back on whether Im allowed to and I consider emails to be private. QuoteWow thank you. I do not like either to go on facebook. Its cool....I really appreciate your work on LazPaint so if theres ever a way I can help you I will. EDIT: Two email from A.J. Venter QuoteHi, I wish I could help but I haven't touched gamepack in literally several years and I don't even have a copy of the code anymore. Everything it did is really rather superfluous now anyway. There is double-buffering support in the LCL itself so no need for TDoubleBuff and TSprite was really just a convenience class, it just gave you some pre-written stuff for storing sprites for a game, nothing that can't be redone fairly easily or that doesn't form part of any game dev's kit already really. QuoteBy all means do The thing is, I wrote gamepack about... 6 or 7 years ago to write a game (tappytux) in lazarus - back then the LCL lacked the abilities to write a game. No doublebuffering and such. So I created some components that could do the job. But their really out of date now Actually - even if I could find a copy somewhere, I'd be incredibly surprized if it still compiled, the LCL has changed way too much since I last worked on it. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Leledumbo · 2011-02-26 21:19 Need a copy? ---------------------------------------------------------------------- circular · 2011-02-27 13:22 Thank you both. Now we know what Venter feels about his code, and we also can see if he's right. I've downloaded your link Leledumbo. His gamepack contains 5 units. constraintlist.pas : handles a list of rectangles (the index seems to lack range checking), which means it is kind of a region, with a function ConstrainedBy to test if two regions intersect.doublebuffer.pas : it's a custom control that has a virtual screen (TBitmap) to draw a background and sprites over it, and that can draw its content. It's a bit like the TImage compomentsprite.pas : contains a bitmap and update a contraint list with his bounding rectangle (useful to check if two sprites collide)spri]"]>Blockedver.pas : handles sprite movement by checking the contraint list. I'm trying to compile it but it does not work. Compiler says it can't find LResources unit. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Leledumbo · 2011-02-27 13:31 QuoteI'm trying to compile it but it does not work. Compiler says it can't find LResources unit. It's the original copy, I haven't touched it to see whether it's compilable with current Lazarus version. But I guess it's fixable. The error is kinda weird, does the package have LCL dependency? Make sure it is. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- circular · 2011-02-27 19:22 How do you define LCL dependency ? ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Leledumbo · 2011-02-28 00:13 Open the package->Add->New Requirement->Choose LCL under package name. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- circular · 2011-02-28 13:56 Ok, thanks. I managed to make it work. Well, Venter's gamepack is not working well.
