Mix SDL2 with other Widgetset components? lazarus / 39-Graphics ---------------------------------------------------------------------- piola · 2022-02-25 15:15 Hello, I have a program which currently uses OpenGL. The main window uses the Lazarus win32 widgetset e.g. for status bar, menu bar, TPanels, etc. The actual TOpenGLControl is only a part of the whole main window. I'm thinking about migrating to SDL2 now. All examples I have seen so far use SDL in an own window. I don't want to do this because I'd then have to also render menus, etc. in SDL. So my question is: Is there an SDL-component which works like TOpenGLControl and allows me to have only a reserved part of the whole window be used for SDL and keep using the win32 widgetset for the rest? ---------------------------------------------------------------------- flowCRANE · 2022-02-26 20:38 I am also interested in this topic—a visual LCL component capable of supporting SDL backend. I am interested in this because I am working on game and game engine using SDL, but to create maps and objects, I will need to create a regular window application using Lazarus and LCL, which would contain several components displaying the engine's renderer output from several perspectives (cameras). In case there are problems with this, I can always render the image on the surface in SDL backend, then copy the data from surface to the component's back buffer in the form of TBitmap and finally render the bitmap on the component canvas. However, I can write the SDL event handler myself—a lot of code will not be needed. But so far I consider this a back-up solution.
