Which is better to use INDY 10 or Synapse? lazarus / 38-Networking and Web Programming ---------------------------------------------------------------------- WTDdallas · 2016-08-01 01:37 I am trying to Select which is best for use,  INDY 10 or Synapse? I was needing to write a basic Email handler front end for a project. POP3 , SMTP, IMAP. Read/ Write Emails, Will need to Attach files, Etc. Which is best  : INDY 10 or Synapse?  Which has examples? Where Do I install them from? for current Lazarus. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Thaddy · 2016-08-01 06:48 Both can do all you ask. Indy installs components by default and is probably just a liitle easier to use for those with little experience in Internet programming. Synapse does not install anything, you just use the units from code. Although it is very clear and concise code and easy to use. (There are components for it, they are not written by the synapse maker and maintenance seems an issue) For simple things use Indy or Synapse. If you need high throughput, tweakability  or performance otherwise, use synapse. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- WTDdallas · 2016-08-01 14:23 Quote from: WTDdallas on August 01, 2016, 03:37:20 amWhich has examples? Four letter acromym that starts with R and ends with M. But here you go, your laziness (don't EVER ask such questions again without at least a google attempt by yourself): A synapse example with attachment: http://stackoverflow.com/questions/6765008/send-an-email-with- attachment-client-agnostic ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Zoran · 2016-08-01 16:56 First, search our wiki pages (http://wiki.freepascal.org): - when you type indy you will find this page - http://wiki.freepascal.org/Indy_with_Lazarus - when you type synapse you will find this page - http://wiki.freepascal.org/Synapse Then take a look at their sites - http://www.indyproject.org/sockets/fpc/index.EN.aspx and http://wiki.freepascal.org/Synapse There you will find documentation and examples - for example Indy knoledge base, Synapse how-to, Synapse reference. And there is also lNet library (perhaps the simplest to use) - http://wiki.freepascal.org/lNet, https://lnet.wordpress.com/ I found these instantly... So, please do search wiki and forum. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- WTDdallas · 2016-08-01 17:49 Quote from: Zoran on August 01, 2016, 06:56:10 pmFirst, search our wiki pages (http://wiki.freepascal.org): I found these instantly... So, please do search wiki and forum. Thank you for your help. I had already found both wiki.freepascal.org pages. I had already tried to download indy, but was having problems installing indy in the latest Lazarus: Lazarus 1.7 r52715 FPC 3.1.1 x86_64-win64-win32/win64 Thanks for lNet library, info. and other Synapse links. I do know how to Google, but a lot of the pages are out of date and don't seem to apply to my version of Lazarus. I was also looking for Examples pages other than on the Indy and Synapse sites. I also wanted to know which most people like better Indy or Synapse,  lNet. But again Thank your for help. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- WTDdallas · 2016-08-02 16:03 I manged to get lNet and Indy installed, after a some work. Thank for links. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- JD · 2016-08-02 16:47 Hi there, The latest Indy 10 version is available at https://indy.fulgan.com/ZIP/. Please use only the version obtainable at the site above because the are incompatibilities between that and older versions found elsewhere. JD
