Can you explain what exactly you mean by "Enterprise Application Server"?  If you mean 3-tier type applications, then yes there is a very good option for you, called tiOPF (TechInsite Object Persistence Framework), available on SourceForge.net. It has been used in production code since the 90's and open sourced in 1999 and still actively been developed and used. I've been using tiOPF for 16 years now in personal and commercial software. tiOPF hides all the database backend code for you, via abstraction. This allows you to switch between Client/Server and 3-tier applications simply by changing a compiler define and rebuilding your project. In Client/Server mode you can use the exact same process to switch between database components (eg: IBX, SqlDB, DOA, Zeos etc), or database servers (eg: SqlDB-Firebird, SqlDB-MySQL etc). No need to change any code in your application. tiOPF Hompage: http://www.tiopf.comtiOPF wiki page for use with FPC and Lazarus:  http://wiki.freepascal.org/tiOPF If you have more questions regarding tiOPF or need any support, there is a dedicated tiOPF Support newsgroup available. As was previously indicated, you can use frameworks like tiOPF, mORMot or even Brook to help you build one. All of them work very well for what you are thinking about doing. There is a learning curve you have to scale but it is worth it. I myself am trying to learn how they work for future projects. If you are in a hurry, you can do as I did, that is build one yourself.  a) Decide what protocol you want to use to send data (TCP/IP, HTTP etc) - I used TCP/IP for mine b) Decide what components you want to use (Synapse, Indy10 or something else) c) Design your architecture It was a great learning experience for me & I have no regrets as I know what goes on under the hood of what I did. According to the Wikipedia definition of Application Server, the tiOPF middle tier server fits the bill too. It is a separate program accessible via HTTP [other protocols can be implemented], can manager security, encryption, compression etc. It can talk to any database server using an assortment of database components (SqlDB, Zeos, IBX, DOA, …). If has a built-in web server thanks to Indy 10.6.x [Synapse is still to be considered]. tiOPF supplies an example server and a console, desktop and web client to use and show it in action. This is an alternative to Delphi's Datasnap or WebSnap middle tier solutions. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- JD · 2016-04-23 09:28 Quote from: Graeme on April 23, 2016, 11:23:15 amQuote from: hengky on April 23, 2016, 09:39:39 am - weblogic in Java -Websphere in java If you want java sepcifically, then you are asking in the wrong forum. Secondly a lot of the documentation on the tiOPF website seems to prioritize Delphi. The tiopf2 branch is meant for Free Pascal and Delphi 7-2007. The tiopf3 branch is currently Delphi 2009 and later only [until FPC catches up with Delphi 2009+ compatibility]. The tiopf2 branch has been tested with FPC 2.6.4 and FPC 3.0 and there are no known issues. Regarding features, both the tiopf2 and tiopf3 branches are on the same feature level - we keep them in sync. Now that FPC 3.0 is out and has supposingly better Delphi compatibility (Unicode, advanced records etc), we will revisit the tiopf3 branch and see if we can make it FPC 3.0 compatible. The current situation is not ideal [lots more effort], and I would really like the latest FPC and Delphi to use the same tiOPF branch again. QuoteSecondly a lot of the documentation on the tiOPF website seems to prioritize Delphi. That is only because the majority of the documentation was written by a developer using Delphi as his primary development tool. The tiOPF framework is definitely both Delphi and FPC compatible for over 10 years now. I've personally used FPC+tiOPF in commercial products since 2005. Regards,   Graeme ---------------------------------------------------------------------- JD · 2016-04-25 10:58 @Graeme Thanks a lot for the clarification. JD ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Graeme · 2016-04-25 11:12 @JD: Your welcome. I amended my earlier reply to make it more clear about the tiopf3 branch. The tiopf3 branch is currently Delphi 2009 and later only (until FPC catches up of course).
