Please don't deprecate this, I don't see any alternative in the
documentation.

Yes, but very few if any are Pascal TEXT file based.
http://wiki.freepascal.org/Text , Not text in the sense that you mean.
The alternative is to use fp* functions, in this case FPSocketPair.
There you can simply use the textbased protocol that you want.

This worked for me on UNIX:

PInteger(@Input)^:=MySocket;
