Synapse in Lazarus on Linux with user privileges not working. lazarus / 38-Networking and Web Programming ---------------------------------------------------------------------- toplek · 2015-08-11 13:51 Hi, when I start Lazarus IDE from root account the PingSend.PingHost(host) from Synapse library works properly, but when I start Lazarus IDE from user account the PingSend.PingHost(host) gives all the time '-1' result. Lazarus version: 1.4.2 FPC, FPC-SRC version: 2.6.4 Synapse version: 4.0 OS: Debina 8.1 on Oracle VM please help in solving this problem. Piort Polok ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Thaddy · 2015-08-12 08:31 Is that computer also running a server? In that case the ping is probably blocked both ways and ICMP is not allowed for user space (rightfully so). This prevents ping flooding to a certain extend. Has nothing to do with Lazarus or Synapse but with permissions. Note that most serious server  distro's block ICMP by default for this reason. Create a new user group for your application, add your app as a user and give it "just enough education(rights) to perform" , i.e. network access rights for ICMP. Nothing more plz. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- toplek · 2015-08-12 13:21 Thank you for the reply, Yes, the compiler is running on server, I do not fully understand the situation, I just moved code from Kylix do Lazarus and it stop to work, also i'm able to ping from user shell command ... ? ---------------------------------------------------------------------- marcov · 2015-08-12 13:33 I don't know anything about the internals of Kylix, but try to strace small programs in both to see where the difference is. And I assume the Kylix binary run on the same computer and are not setuid ? ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Thaddy · 2015-08-12 13:39 I strongly suggest you check your Kylix program permissions. Like Marco said and I explained: this is a rights issue. I suspect a normal -user - terminal ping will also fail unless you are running a terminal as root. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- toplek · 2015-08-12 14:19 You are right, my wrong, Kylix has the same problem, it's all about permision. Thank you for the help.
