Indy10 installation. Time to update the Wiki. lazarus / 38-Networking and Web Programming ---------------------------------------------------------------------- JD · 2015-01-02 09:41 Hi there everyone, A happy new year to all on the Lazarus forum. I downloaded the latest svn version of Indy10 from http://indy.fulgan.com/ZIP/ on New Year's day (01/01/2015) to update my 6 month old version. I extracted the zip file to my HD & on a hunch, I just decided to install the package indylaz.lpk immediately instead of what I usually do below: Code: [Select]copy the *.pas, *.lrs and *.inc of the \Lib\System, \Lib\Core, and \Lib\Protocols subdirectories into a new directory of your choosing I compiled it twice & I then installed it painlessly to my surprise.  Apparently we no longer need to copy/move files around to install Indy10. It can now be installed like any other Lazarus component package. So I believe we can update the Wiki & remove all the sometimes conflicting instructions so new users will be able to install it without much confusion. Please note that I refer to the most recent version. I don't know if it is the same with the older versions. Cheers, JD ---------------------------------------------------------------------- ChrisF · 2015-01-02 14:10 Agree. Subdirectories are supported and properly working within the Lazarus installation package file provided with Indy since revision 5196. So, there are only 2 remaining issues: - package compilation needed twice before installation. Currently, I can't see any solution; at least not without some modifications within the Indy source code. However, it seems (?) that a possible fix will/would be available in the future for FPC. See the last post (Jonas Maebe) in this bug report: http://bugs.freepascal.org/view.php?id=19673 - "ugly" 16 color icons in the Lazarus IDE by default. The last 256 color versions are available here (in the lrs.zip file): http://forums2.atozed.com/viewtopic.php?f=7&t=26483#p32740 . But I guess that using them for someone who is not familiar with Indy and Lazarus packages is not very easy: at least not without detailed instructions. I've planned to modify the Wiki myself; may be with a few screen captures. But still haven't found the time (courage ?) to do it until now. Anyway, Wiki is "self-service". You can modify it by yourself :-) ---------------------------------------------------------------------- JuhaManninen · 2015-01-02 15:21 Quote from: ChrisF on January 02, 2015, 03:10:27 pm- "ugly" 16 color icons in the Lazarus IDE by default. I don't even know who maintains it? Is the license of the icons compatible? ---------------------------------------------------------------------- ChrisF · 2015-01-02 17:00 Quote from: JuhaManninen on January 02, 2015, 04:21:06 pmDoes Indy project accept the icons? I don't even know who maintains it? Is the license of the icons compatible? For being honest, I don't know who has/have provided them. But I'm talking here of the "official" icons coming with Indy; those displayed in the IDEs (for Delphi or for Lazarus - see capture attached). Though, I guess the license for them is OK (probably the same as for Indy itself, as I don't remember any particular license terms for the icons). The problem is that both 4 and 24 bits color icons are provided with Indy. But the current Lazarus resource files are build with the 4 bits color ones (i.e. IdRegister.lrs and IdRegisterCore.lrs files). As these resource files are not (re)built dynamically during the installation (I don't know if it's even possible with Lazarus packages ?), the 4 bits color icons are always installed by default in the Lazarus IDE. And esthetically, the result is rather "ugly". ---------------------------------------------------------------------- JD · 2015-01-02 18:44 Quote from: ChrisF on January 02, 2015, 06:00:50 pmQuote from: JuhaManninen on January 02, 2015, 04:21:06 pmDoes Indy project accept the icons? I think you once said we need to replace the standard indylaz.lpk with the one you created. Is that still the case? ---------------------------------------------------------------------- ChrisF · 2015-01-02 20:41 Quote from: JD on January 02, 2015, 07:44:28 pmYour screenshot is exactly how Indy icons look in Delphi currently. So how do we get the "look" you have in your screenshot. I think you once said we need to replace the standard indylaz.lpk with the one you created. Is that still the case? No, my indylaz.lpk file was necessary in order to authorize subdirectories during the installation step. And, as you've seen by yourself, this is no more needed (i.e. the file coming with Indy is now correct). No, to get the 24 bits color icons, you need to replace the Lazarus resources files provided with Indy (or to update them by yourself). As explained above, you can obtained these 2 Lazarus resource files by downloading the lrs.zip file attached to this post: http://forums2.atozed.com/viewtopic.php?f=7&t=26483#p32740 Replace the IdRegister.lrs file in (Indy directory)\Lib\Protocols, and the IdRegisterCore.lrs file in (Indy directory)\Lib\Core. You'll have to recompile (twice) and installed Indy again, in order to get the new icons in your Lazarus IDE. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- JuhaManninen · 2015-01-02 22:22 Quote from: ChrisF on January 02, 2015, 06:00:50 pmThe problem is that both 4 and 24 bits color icons are provided with Indy. Ok but would Indy project accept your changed resource files if you offered them? ---------------------------------------------------------------------- ChrisF · 2015-01-02 23:24 Quote from: JuhaManninen on January 02, 2015, 11:22:09 pmOk but would Indy project accept your changed resource files if you offered them? Well, "my" resources files are just containing the icon files coming from the \Icons subdirectory of Indy. I've of course offered "my" resources files, and also provide an complete explanation of how to produce these Lazarus resources files directly from the icons. The whole topic is here: http://forums2.atozed.com/viewtopic.php?f=7&t=26483 And the part concerning the way to build the concerned Lazarus files is more specifically here: http://forums2.atozed.com/viewtopic.php?f=7&t=26483#p32746 Basically, the .BMP icon files are first converted into .PNG files, and then those .PNG files are gathered into 2 Lazarus resources files. I've even converted a part of the LazRes tool, in order to be compiled with Delphi (because I know that the main coder maintaining Indy -Remy Lebeau- doesn't use Lazarus/FPC): see my concerned post. As far as I can tell, the last answer is still: Quote from: rlebeauMy only problem is time. I don't have any. [...] I am sorry it is taking so long, I just don't have spare time like I used to. I will try to get to it soon. *** EDIT *** Re-reading your posts and mines, I may have wrongly interpreted your question. In fact, I've not designed any icons by myself (except for 1 or 2 exceptions); so they are not "my" icons". I've just updated the by- default Lazarus resource files coming with Indy, in order that they use the 24 bits color Indy icons, and no more the 4 bits color ones. Which is already the case for Delphi, BTW (as JD has already spotted it). ---------------------------------------------------------------------- JuhaManninen · 2015-01-03 23:23 Yes, I understood the situation with icons after you explained it. Indy maintainer must only commit the resource files you provided and the problem is solved. I believe it will happen sooner or later. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- tolai_nd · 2015-01-14 09:26 Quote from: JD on January 02, 2015, 10:41:31 amHi there everyone, A happy new year to all on the Lazarus forum. Cheers, JD I tried to install indylaz.lpk without copy anything because there's no "system" "core" or "protocols" inside "Lib" folder. There is only "i386-linux" folder inside "Lib". Error in compiling: IdAboutVCL.pas Indentifier not found "RSAAboutBoxTitle1" / "RSAAboutBoxTitle2" / "RSAAboutBoxBuildFor", "RSAAboutBoxLicences" Linux mint 17 Xfce Lazarus v1.2.6 Indy 10.6.1.5237 ---------------------------------------------------------------------- tolai_nd · 2015-01-15 07:40 I removed everything that  contains "Indentifier not found" then installed Indy successful. Is it ok? I still worry something won't work properly  Something may be wrong with your installation. I just downloaded the latest version from indy.fulgan.com & installed it onto Linux Mint MATE 17.1 using indylaz.lpk found in the [Lib] folder just like I detailed above. I did not have to do anything except to locate indylaz.lpk, open it & compile the package twice. No errors whatsoever were reported. See attachment. JD ---------------------------------------------------------------------- tolai_nd · 2015-01-16 03:09 Thanks. Everything is fine now, compile twice compile twice compile twice compile twice .... Well, but Ctrl+Space (code completion) when using Indy (IdSNMP for example), it shows error in IdGlobal.pas: GOffsetFromUTC: TDateTime = 0 {$IFDEF HAS_DEPRECATED} deprecated{ENDIF}; Expected : but deprecated found Ok, remove  {$IFDEF HAS_DEPRECATED} deprecated{ENDIF}. It works well.
