Simplest method of retrieving and reading a text file via FTP lazarus / 38-Networking and Web Programming ---------------------------------------------------------------------- jdlinke · 2014-08-14 03:41 I haven't done anything network/web-related in delphi or FPC/lazarus in *years* (like the mid-2000's), so I'm completely out of the loop. I want users to be able to select "Check for Updates" from a menu in my application and then the program will simply read a single line from a single file on my anonymous FTP in order to view the current release version of my installer program. That's it. (I'll get into more in-depth networking stuff once my current projects are done) Looking at the Wiki, I see that there are a number of networking libraries available that could probably do the trick. But, does anyone have a recommendation for which of these libraries is the simplest/easiest for my particular case? ---------------------------------------------------------------------- minesadorada · 2014-08-14 05:06 If your environment is Windows, keep an eye on LazAutoUpdate.  I'm currently working on non-sourceforge updates. http://forum.lazarus.freepascal.org/index.php/topic,25444.0.html It uses httpsend from the synapse library - I think synapse also has an ftp method as well. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- jdlinke · 2014-08-14 12:57 minesadorada: Will do. I'm still at pretty early stages on this project, so update capability doesn't really have to be implemented yet.
