blinking lights or led for serial or lan communication lazarus / 38-Networking and Web Programming ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Awesome Programmer · 2013-11-19 19:28 For long time, I have been looking for a reliable blinking or led component to use on Lazarus for serial or lan communication, but I haven't found one yet. I even tried to create one from scratch using Tpanel and changing its backcolor back and forth like green to black and black to green for good communication. However, it failed miserably. My program hogged system resources very rapidly and eventually the program crashed by itself. I even did the same with other tools and produced the same result - my program crashed. I wish some of the network tools for cross-platform came with their own blinking light indicator. Any hints or clues will be greatly appreciated. Thank you, ---------------------------------------------------------------------- skalogryz · 2013-11-19 20:19 maybe a reversal approach will work. You publish the code somewhere and someone from this forum will help you to fix the blinking-panel- system-overflow crash. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Awesome Programmer · 2013-11-19 21:25 Quote from: skalogryz on November 19, 2013, 09:19:11 pmmaybe a reversal approach will work. Find  TcyLed on that page and some controls below it. (Googling "Delphi led component" gives many more hits.) Bart ---------------------------------------------------------------------- irfanbagus · 2013-11-20 00:38 @reltek, instead of change panel color when an even appear you could just increment a counter variable. at specific interval (using timer maybe), if your counter > 0 then change color to active state and if not (=0) change color to inactive state, and reset your counter to zero. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- avra · 2013-11-20 08:28 Quote from: Bart on November 19, 2013, 11:18:46 pmMaybe something here? I've looked up online and it is not found but on GitHub.com, but it won't let me download the files only copy them file by file. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- howardpc · 2013-12-02 21:15 If you use svn (or TortoiseSVN) to get a current copy of Lazarus trunk from http://svn.freepascal.org/svn/lazarus/trunk you'll find /IndustrialStuff/ as a subfolder of .../components/ ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Zoran · 2013-12-03 07:21 Led component might look better then panel background colour changing. However, I doubt that it will solve the memory consumption and crashing. There is probably something you are doing wrong, so posting an application, as simple as possible, which illustrates this behaviour might be the best, as skalogryz suggested already. Quote from: howardpc on December 02, 2013, 10:15:37 pmIf you use svn (or TortoiseSVN) to get a current copy of Lazarus trunk from http://svn.freepascal.org/svn/lazarus/trunk you'll find /IndustrialStuff/ as a subfolder of .../components/ These components are not only included in Lazarus trunk, but also in 1.2 RC1. See: http://svn.freepascal.org/cgi-bin/viewvc.cgi/tags/lazaru s_1_2_RC1/components/IndustrialStuff/?root=lazarus If you don't want to upgrade Lazarus before 1.2 becomes stable, try to download these component from trunk or 1.2 bracnh and then install in stable Lazarus 1.0.14. I haven't tested myself, but they will probably work.
