Synapse: TFTP over TCP instead of UDP? lazarus / 38-Networking and Web Programming ---------------------------------------------------------------------- BigChimp · 2013-06-15 18:41 I'm writing client and server console mode programs that need to transfer files. I'm looking at the synapse (trunk) tftp client+server code, but can't seem to find a way to switch the protocol from UDP to TCP. Any suggestions? Thanks, BigChimp ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Jurassic Pork · 2013-06-15 22:54 Why Tftp and not Ftp ? Tftp is an udp protocol, Ftp is a tcp protocol. Friendly, J.P ---------------------------------------------------------------------- BigChimp · 2013-06-16 04:43 Hi JP, 1. TFTP is simple, I don't really need anything else (multiple file support etc). Synapse has a TFTP client and server in its units 2. Yes, TFTP is UDP by default but apparently can also work over TCP. That said, I don't mind another way of transferring files keeping in my mind that I'm writing both client and server and don't want it too bloated/complicated Also, I might drop the TCP preference - might be easiest to do. Still, I would like to know if it is possible with Synapse. T ---------------------------------------------------------------------- taazz · 2013-06-16 05:02 there are a number of demos at http://synapse.ararat.cz/files/contrib with the most useful of them to be http://synapse.ararat.cz/files/contrib/sftp.zip and http://synapse.ararat.cz/files/contrib/ftpserv.zip as far as I can see the second one has a very simple implementation to get you started. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- BigChimp · 2013-06-16 05:48 Ehm yes, taazz, but isn't sftp secure ftp and the ftpserv is an FTP example. I've already got code using Synapse's TFTP class by following their documentation. Of course, it could well be buggy/incomplete but that's a different matter ---------------------------------------------------------------------- taazz · 2013-06-16 06:44 yes sftp is secure ftp probably requires ssl or some other type of encryption and I think is a client sample. ftoserv is an ftp server example and it is multi threaded as well so I think it is the perfect starting point if you want and ftp client sample there is the ftpdemo to get you started. I think that with those 2 you have your file server/client in no time. As always I haven't code any net applications professionally except from light tests on the library so I might be off in my assumptions. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- BigChimp · 2013-06-16 07:16 Ok, just to reiterate: I already have client/server code using tftp; just looking if it can be sent over tcp instead of udp... If not, too bad. Don't really see the point of messing with ftp or sftp at this point, but thanks for the info.
