Indy 10 Install errors

First I'd like to say thanks to the Lazarus/FPC team, as a (very)ex
Delphi program it was great to find this project recently and I am
enjoying using it, however (yeah there's always a but) I have been
attempting to do some web programming using Indy 10 and have been
experiencing some difficulties with installing the packages.

I have Indy 10_5005 installed and running with Lazarus  1.0.8 r40573
FPC 2.6.2 x86_64-win64-win32/win64 - Everything seems to be working
fine (that's the good news).

I am trying to install Indy10_5005 on linux the matching packages on
Linux - Lazarus 1.0.8 r40574 FPC 2.6.2 x86_64-linux-gtk 2 and the
install fails with a bunch of errors (listed below)

Kernel version

Linux jupiter 3.5.0-17-generic #28-Ubuntu SMP Tue Oct 9 19:31:23 UTC
2012 x86_64 x86_64 x86_64 GNU/Linux

Error messages

/usr/share/lazarus/1.0.8/components/Indy10/System/IdGlobal.pas(2608,16
) Error: Identifier not found "Chars"
/usr/share/lazarus/1.0.8/components/Indy10/System/IdGlobal.pas(2620,9)
Error: Can't assign values to const variable

I get s series of the const assignment errors (10 to be exact).

I went through series of suggestions from the thread in this forum to
get the it running under Linux without luck, including moving all the
files into one directory and recompiling, it seems to find all the
files fine just generates errors when I compile. I haven't seen the
error anywhere else so I accept it may be something I am/am not doing
but if anyone could point me in the right direction I would appreciate
it.
