An offer to provide a demo web server lazarus / 38-Networking and Web Programming ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Michael Collier · 2012-02-23 14:19 Hi, Would it be helpful if I provided a web server that hosted examples? I have a machine that is isolated from my network so no security issues for me. I currently run Apache 2.2.22 and a test server of an Indy10 example but I'd like to see more being hosted as I will be trying them out for myself anyway (I use SOAP, DCOM, DataSnap, CGI etc from my Delphi days). I also have some dot net ASPX pages with SOAP that may be of interest. Just let me know if it would be of use and I'll publish the URL and make arrangements for developers to have access to the machine. I would prefer that examples are stable on this machine as I will be using it to demo some private work, but if a test/dev machine is required I could make that available too. Please let me know and I can enable today.. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Leledumbo · 2012-02-23 16:59 That's good for a show case/gallery of what web things fpc can generate. But what kind of access would you give? ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Michael Collier · 2012-02-23 17:51 For the general public, they would open the website using a browser (e.g firefox) to the apache server where they can browse for appropriate examples (I can install joomla to make uploading and documenting examples as easy as possible). They would be able to download pre-compiled client applications and corresponding source code. They would be able to run the client applications that would connect to the machine, if the application modifies data e.g. via MySQL then they can see changes in their client application and also in any corresponding web pages on the machine e.g. ASPX,PHP. For members of this forum who I can trust, Leledumbo - you would be one of them, I would give some kind of ftp access so you can upload server applications. Joomla comes with authoring abilities too that allow authors to write articles etc. I would review all source code for client applications, partly to ensure security but also to modify so that all examples have the same coding standards. I'm open to any ideas.. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- mas steindorff · 2012-02-23 18:07 how about a code snippet data base or something http://lazarus.freepascal.org/index.php/topic,14407.msg76253.html#msg7 6253 the help system could improve a lot if we users could edit, append, or update it one page at a time.  we would still need someone who knows the code well to review the update but a wiki based help system might fit the bill ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Michael Collier · 2012-02-23 18:26 Yes that is something that could be done, I'm doing something similar for my own users (they are learning BASIC,C++ and assembly code).. Just something simple, the ability to upload examples, add keywords, comment, rate, mark as tested on various platforms (I can test snippets on ubuntu, windows, Mac, possibly FreeBSD) ---------------------------------------------------------------------- JanRoza · 2012-02-23 23:51 An alternative might be DelphiDabblers CodeSnip database full of code snippets for Delphi and/or FreePascal/Lazarus. There information for every snippet telling you on which compilers it will run and you can add your own (in your offline database or online at DelphiDabbler). I've using it for quite a number of years now and use it regularly, it free and it's mighty handy to have available.
