Brook framework lazarus / 38-Networking and Web Programming ---------------------------------------------------------------------- gerardus · 2023-05-08 19:02 Hi all, There are two Brook Framework packages in the Online Package Manager and two repositories in GitHub, aparently from the same author/maintainer. https://github.com/risoflora/brookfreepascal https://github.com/risoflora/brookframework/ What are the differences between the two? Regards, Gerard. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- TRon · 2023-05-08 19:09 According to the wiki https://wiki.freepascal.org/Brook_Framework#Comp arison_with_Brook_for_Free_Pascal QuoteBrook for Free Pascal is an earlier web application library by the same developer. ... and the other way around https://wiki.freepascal.org/Brook_for_Free_Pa scal#Comparison_with_Brook_Framework QuoteBrook Framework is another web application library by the same developer. The main difference between Brook for Free Pascal and Brook Framework is that Brook for Free Pascal is pure Pascal and relies on the HTTP functionality provided by fcl-web, covering CGI, FastCGI and standalone, whereas Brook Framework uses libsagui, a C library, for its underlying HTTP/S functionality. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- gerardus · 2023-05-08 19:15 Thanks a lot. I see two more packages in the Lazarus package list: brookdt 1.0 and brookex 2.0 wich apparently are from https://github.com/silvioprog/brookframework Where it says "The project Brook framework was moved to: risoflora/brookframework. If you want Brook only for Free Pascal, it was moved to: risoflora/brookfreepascal." So these two are the same as ttps://github.com/risoflora/brookframework And there is another package: BrookTardigrade 5.6 ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Leledumbo · 2023-05-09 10:01 Quote from: gerardus on May 08, 2023, 09:15:25 pmThanks a lot. So these two are the same as ttps://github.com/risoflora/brookframework And there is another package: BrookTardigrade 5.6 Yes. Silvio started this as a personal project, he then moved it to say, an organization (risoflora) consisting of multiple people instead. The repo is still in github. BrookTardigrade is his attempt to help migrating the older Brook Freepascal project to use the newer higher performance HTTP server instead of relying on 3rd party web server like Apache or Nginx, as the common practice. It's just another Brook broker, a core concept of Brook. Basically broker = implementation of an interface. There are brokers for HTTP server, event logging, static files, etc. and they're interchangeable for the same interface as well as pluggable for different one. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- gerardus · 2023-05-09 16:27 Thanks, I think I get it now.
