Windows 10 going 64 bit only, sort of lazarus / 34-Windows ---------------------------------------------------------------------- trev · 2020-05-15 04:30 From Minimum hardware requirements still dated 05/02/2017: * Beginning with Windows 10, version 2004, all new Windows 10 systems will be required to use 64-bit builds and Microsoft will no longer release 32-bit builds for OEM distribution. This does not impact 32-bit customer systems that are manufactured with earlier versions of Windows 10; Microsoft remains committed to providing feature and security updates on these devices, including continued 32-bit media availability in non-OEM channels to support various upgrade installation scenarios. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- nanobit · 2020-05-15 06:39 Quote from: trev on May 15, 2020, 06:30:45 amWindows 10 going 64 bit only, sort of But Windows support will continue "endlessly" for win32 apps which run on Wow64. A prominent example is MS Visual Studio 2019: It's available only as 32-bit process and installs to Program Files (x86), regardless of install options (even if the installer refers to 64-bit in its name, this has effect only on subcomponents of Visual Studio). And current Win10 on ARM64 can run only x86-apps (via x86-emulation) and native AArch64 apps, but not yet x64-apps (via x64-emulation). ---------------------------------------------------------------------- lucamar · 2020-05-15 10:28 Please note the really relevant part: Quote from: trev on May 15, 2020, 06:30:45 amBeginning with Windows 10, version 2004, all new Windows 10 systems will be required to use 64-bit builds and Microsoft will no longer release 32-bit builds for OEM distribution. It affects only hardware manufacturers and system builders, as the rest of the quote explains. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Thaddy · 2020-05-15 11:08 And those OEM distributors that still distribute 32 bit  are not many if any. I do not understand that 64 bit windows is mainstream for over 5 years and people still ask. You should not develope new code on 32 bit intel windows at all. Maintenance is OK of course.
