[solved] cannot get a simple form working

I'm on Ubuntu 16.04, and any attempt to create a simple form doesn't
work.
Now I've installed ver. 2.0.10, but the same behaviour was apparent on
ver. 2.0.8.
Have tried to inspect the problem using  [ View / IDE internals / view
output ] but cannot find the relevant bit in the log.

It seems the form gets a chance to display the controls, then freezes,
indeed the close button in the form title bar doesn't work.
Ubuntu says me the [ This window is not responding ] and lazarus
reports the SIGKILL after I press Quit...

....

sorry for the noise, I've tried to start the executable, and it
worked.
Most probably was only that I had not saved the project and lazarus
was attempting to start/work in a temporary directory...
