I compile on ubuntu, can I distribute for linux mint etc? lazarus / 32-Linux ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Michael Collier · 2015-09-19 02:37 My application is compiled on an ubuntu machine ( 32 bit intel ) and I was wondering if it will run on other versions of linux? e.g. linux mint? https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Linux_Mint Note: My application is compiled on the ubuntu machine and released, rather than released as open source - so compiling on the target machine, by the user, is not an option for me, but I can install different versions of linux here, and build/test/debug on them if that is required..?? ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Leledumbo · 2015-09-19 08:01 What matters for Linux binary distribution is: kernel and backend toolkit (implicitly libc) version. For console apps, only kernel version matters as FPC links directly to the kernel instead of through libc. Generally, they're backward compatible. So if you compile on a machine with lower version of those things, it's more likely to work on machines with higher versions than the opposite. Certainly a direct inspection on the target distro would be better. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Michael Collier · 2015-09-19 09:29 Quote from: Leledumbo on September 19, 2015, 10:01:23 amWhat matters for Linux binary distribution is: kernel and backend toolkit (implicitly libc) version. Ok thanks, would I get that info by using "ldd --version" ? On my machine for example it says ( Ubuntu EGLIBC 2.19-0ubuntu6.6) 2.19, would that simply be 2.19, and compare with linux mint doing the same? ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Leledumbo · 2015-09-19 17:33 Quote from: Michael Collier on September 19, 2015, 11:29:09 amOk thanks, would I get that info by using "ldd --version" ? ldd seems to be part of libc, so I guess yes you can count on it.
