Getting Started lazarus / 32-Linux ---------------------------------------------------------------------- sysgambler · 2014-02-09 22:54 Hi all, i'm a Delphi programmer and now i need to develop some applications in a cross plataform environment(Win and linux, at least). So, i'm searchig for tips or any help for using Lazarus ide. Things like distro(linux), database access component, configuration, etc will appreciate. Thanks in advance. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- edvard · 2014-02-10 00:44 I'm using Debian and running happily, and many others here have used it successfully on many different Linux platforms. see here: http://forum.lazarus.freepascal.org/index.php/topic,22992.0.html For database stuff I'm not very knowledgeable at all, but there is a sub-forum dedicated to it: http://forum.lazarus.freepascal.org/index.php/board,16.0.html and lots of documentation: http://wiki.freepascal.org/Lazarus_Database_Overview http://wiki.freepascal.org/Databases Configuration depends on what you would like it to do.  From the menu, look under Tools -> Options to configure many aspects of the IDE, and Project -> Project options for details that are specific to the project at hand.  I have no experience with Delphi, so I wouldn't know how to configure Lazarus to run more like it, although I know the biggest detail is multiple windows vs. single-window views.  Doesn't bother me, as I am used to working that way from using Gimp, so YMMV. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Rails · 2014-02-10 00:58 +1 for Debian. I run Debian unstable (aka Sid). Instead of reinstalling each time a new version is released, which seems to be common practice for quite a few users running some of the other distros, I prefer to just keep my machines current on an as needed basis by updating only relevant packages.  It's very easy with Debian and seems to be the way most Debian users do it. I also use the xfce4 desktop. It is very stable and clean. Some of the other desktops, not so much. Whatever you do, avoid Unity. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- sysgambler · 2014-02-10 01:41 Thanks guys, i think that is enough by now.
