Two questions about packaging an application lazarus / 32-Linux ---------------------------------------------------------------------- gato2707 · 2013-10-11 00:55 Hi everybody: I'm finishing an application Lazarus - FPC GTK and need packaged it into a .deb (Debian and derivatives) file. I have two questions: 1) What dependencies are needed to be included to avoid problems during installation? 2) The program uses Firebird and the application not need necessarily reside on the same machine where the database is running. It is desirable to include only the minimal dependencies (Firebird client) or it is advisable to include full Firebird? Thanks in advance. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- marcov · 2013-10-11 08:47 GTK and the clientlib I guess.  (note you can see to which libraries your main binary is linked against via "ldd ./file"). Most of them (intl/libc/iconv etc) are in base though. Note that .deb packages software in principle for that distribution in that version on that architecture. It probably will work on closely related distributions too, but no guarantees there. If you need to setup something wrt the server (e.g. run a few scripts to make a db etc) it is easier to make a very small separate package that has a dependency on the server and provides the scripts or even runs them. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- BigChimp · 2013-10-11 11:54 Quote from: gato2707 on October 11, 2013, 02:55:35 am2) The program uses Firebird and the application not need necessarily reside on the same machine where the database is running. I'd think you can use the requires lines in the deb to specify the Firebird client as a requirement and you can use the recommends line to include the firebird server package as an optional installation. You could also look into how to use embedded Firebird; perhaps using the Firebird client would be enough for that; haven't tried yet. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- gato2707 · 2013-10-12 03:09 Thanks both of you. I'll check all dependencies as you sugest me. Excelent idea separate fbclient as a requirement and recomend firebird server. Thanks again.
