G'Day Folks,

I am doing database tutorial 1
(https://wiki.freepascal.org/SQLdb_Tutorial1); and before that did
tutorial 0.

I have installed firebird 3.0.7 (64bit windows version); while doing
tutorial 0.
It mentions that I should copy the following files into my project
folder:
Quotefbclient.dll #only if using the server
#or
fbembed.dll #only if using embedded
firebird.msg
ib_util.dll
icudt30.dll
icuin30.dll
icuuc30.dll
Microsoft.VC80.CRT.manifest
msvcp80.dll
msvcr80.dll

I copied the following
Quotefbclient.dll could not find "fbembed.dll"
firebird.msg
ib_util.dll
icudt52.dll
icuin52.dll
icuuc52.dll
Microsoft.VC80.CRT.manifest could not find
msvcp100.dll
msvcr100.dll
I don't know whether the different version of the dll's are an issue.

Doing tutorial 1, I added all the components and 'hooked' them up, the
only issue I had as that, when I installed firebird I created a new
password (as it requests), so I used that password in the
DBConnection.password property (I used username='SYSDBA' though.

When I hit the DBConnection.connected property (to set it to true) I
receive the following error:
QuoteCan not load default Firebird clients ("fbclient.dll" or
"gds32.dll" or "fbembed.dll"). Check your installation
I have attached a screenshot of the project folder, showing that
fbclient.dll is there; but it is presumably the v3.0.7 client, which
might be a problem.

I am not sure whether the firebird "server" is running (maybe I need
to restart the computer?)...

Any suggestions about what I'm doing wrong would be appreciated!

I don't understand. You DO NOT NEED those files in the project folder.

The server must be running -- you can check it at  Services of Control
Panel > ..... somewhere (sorry, my Windows is in Korean, so I cannot
write them in English).

Usually fbclient.dll is installed in the Windows folder or
Windows\System32 directory if it is 64-bit library (and SYSWOW64 for
32-bit libraries). These folders are defined in search pathes by
default, so you don't have to do any other setups.

For my case (Windows 10), I had to set the following in the
Firebird.conf file after installation.

#WireCrypt = Enabled (for client) / Required (for server)   --> This
is default
WireCrypt = Enabled         <-- this line is needed.

But as there are small changes depending on the version, you may have
to check more points. Good Luck!

Thanks egsuh for you help!

I moved the dll's into windows\system32; and found the firebird
service in the services list, it was 'stopped' so I started it. I was
then able to hit 'connect' in lazarus and it seemed happy.

Onward I go, towards the next error...

Hello,
when you use Firebirdserver then coply only fbclient.dll from your
firebird3-64bit-folder to your application folder.

When you want use firebird 3 embedded then you must copy at least this
files with the same folder structure to your application folder:

Then tell to your connection where firebird-files are, for zeos:
 ZConnection1.LibraryLocation :=
ExtractFilePath(ParamStr(0))+'fb\fbclient.dll'.
For SQLDB i think you must use TSQLDBLibraryLoader:
SQLDBLibraryLoader1.LibraryName :=
ExtractFilePath(ParamStr(0))+'fb\fbclient.dll'.

In Lazarus you must use Firebirdserver. You can use firebird Embedded
only at runtime.


Delete first all the firebird files, which you copied to
windows/system folder


Edit: I forget to add icu*.*-files
