Why there always be 'show index from my_table'

Hi, all,

I enabled the MySql-Connection's OnLog event handler, and found that
when I do a query such as 'select my_field from my_table',  there
always is a extra query 'show index from my_table' executing before my
really query cmd.

I wonder why?
If it slows down my program, is there any way to skip the extra query?
