free gui database relationship designer lazarus / 16-Databases ---------------------------------------------------------------------- lawman · 2020-02-02 17:01 what gui database designer do you use to easily create primary>foreign key relationships between tables? ms access and libreoffice base have really nice gui to create table relationships. valentina studio seems to make 'diagrams' which shows tables/relationships but this can't been seen by other software for some strange reason. dbeaver seems cumbersome. are there any suggestions? thanks ---------------------------------------------------------------------- HeavyUser · 2020-02-02 17:33 I'm using this https://www.erdconcepts.com/  and looking for others of the same type I had seen a couple free but I can't find them at the moment. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- lawman · 2020-02-02 22:27 Quote from: HeavyUser on February 02, 2020, 06:33:00 pmI'm using this https://www.erdconcepts.com/  and looking for others of the same type I had seen a couple free but I can't find them at the moment. looks good, but no linux version anything for linux? ---------------------------------------------------------------------- AnthonyTekatch · 2020-02-03 00:56 I use https://sqlitebrowser.org/ for SQlite databases. and https://www.phpmyadmin.net/ from a browser for MySQL databases. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- egsuh · 2020-02-03 04:51 I'm trying erdconcepts, but there are no tutorials... What do these tools do? Are these fully functioning DB-administrator like FlameRobis, or are they just show the relationships and diagrams? ---------------------------------------------------------------------- HeavyUser · 2020-02-03 07:02 Quote from: egsuh on February 03, 2020, 05:51:29 amI'm trying erdconcepts, but there are no tutorials... As the name suggests its an Entity Relationship Diagramming/modeling tool, not an administration tool, that uses the crows foot notation. All entities and there links can be inserted from the toolbar on the left of the screen, it supports a bit more than simple erd though. Once the model is finished you can "translate" it to different backends/servers, see the database menu on top, and last but not least it  can validate the model to point out missing functionality/items eg a foreign key with out a primary on the master table etc. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Thaddy · 2020-02-03 07:43 I use MySql workbench: integrates visual design, admin tools and much more. With a little thought it can be used with other databases as well. https://www.mysql.com/products/workbench/ ---------------------------------------------------------------------- HeavyUser · 2020-02-03 08:13 Quote from: lawman on February 02, 2020, 11:27:47 pmQuote from: HeavyUser on February 02, 2020, 06:33:00 pmI'm using this https://www.erdconcepts.com/  and looking for others of the same type I had seen a couple free but I can't find them at the moment. looks good, but no linux version anything for linux? Sorry I'm not very well versed on linux applications. There was a dbdesigner for mysql that started as a linux app you could try to search for that but it was not as complete as erdconcepts there was a site that kept a list of alternatives for each application alternatives.com alternativesto.com or something along those lines you can try there for alternatives of erdconcenpts for linux. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- devEric69 · 2020-02-03 08:29 Quote from: lawman on February 02, 2020, 06:01:51 pmwhat gui database designer do you use to easily create primary>foreign key relationships between tables? I use Red Expert ( it works on Linux with the JRE 1.8 ) for Firebird: you can see the ERD relations; there is a graph of the relations between tables. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- nummer8 · 2020-02-03 08:40 Found this on Github. A sheet of paper, a pen........ Since any serious db-application needs the "CREATE"-statements in the end, you should be familiar with the DDL of the database, including constraints, foreign keys etc. So any GUI to create a Database (and yes, i am using SQLitebrowser and MySQL-Workbench, too) should be enough to create your foreign-keys without any visual "Relationship"-Thingy (and yes, i'm too one of those lazy guys just exporting the "CREATE"-statement) ---------------------------------------------------------------------- egsuh · 2020-02-03 08:51 Well it's more for presentation rather than work in my case. But defining presentation and working at once is good. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- krexon · 2020-02-03 10:52 I use: https://www.activedbsoft.com/overview-querytool.html ---------------------------------------------------------------------- lawman · 2020-02-03 18:37 Quote from: AnthonyTekatch on February 03, 2020, 01:56:32 amI use https://sqlitebrowser.org/ for SQlite databases. and https://www.phpmyadmin.net/ from a browser for MySQL databases. sqlitebrowser doesn't seem to have a ERD (entity relationship diagrams) view ---------------------------------------------------------------------- krexon · 2020-02-08 17:52 https://www.visual-paradigm.com/solution/free-erd-tool/ https://dbmstools.com/categories/database-diagram-tools/mysql
