or drag and drop between the fields editor and the form? some sort of
function that returns a control class to dynamically create at runtime
or is it a design time only request?

Please specify you question. @Runtime data controls are created
automatically, but you can not use the properties if you have not
specified them in code.

FPC - 3.0.5
Lazarus - 1.8.3 (SVN - Fixes)
Windows 7 - SP 1

Drag the Field Editor onto the Form and nothing happens.

Sorry, wcleyton for my misleading information. I was wrong.
I think I have used this feature on Lazarus before, but since it does
not work now on Lazarus 1.8.2 (latest stable version), I am not sure
any more.

I have just created a bug report or feature request based on this
