Preferred component for dealing with CSV? lazarus / 16-Databases ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Mike.Cornflake · 2017-01-03 02:53 We have three ways of dealing with CSV: TSDFDataset (which has a register for Lazarus, and thus appears on the component pallet) TCSVDataset (which only has a fpc register, which means currently needs to be created in-code) TCSVDocument (which appears to be just reader/writer) I've established that the CSV files I'm using conform to the TSDFDataset assumptions.  So for now I'm using this with good results, and as a dataset it's easy to use.  Wiki doesn't speak highly of this component though (several links to Mantis bugs and notes about needing to be changed to use TCSVDocument as reader/writer), so I'm wondering what the preferred database component is? If the answer is TCSVDataset (which is my suspicion) then does anyone know if there any reason a register wasn't added to Lazarus?  (if it was just overlooked, no problem, I'll submit a patch) Cheers Mike ---------------------------------------------------------------------- LacaK · 2017-01-03 18:17 Quote from: Mike.Cornflake on January 03, 2017, 03:53:42 amI've established that the CSV files I'm using conform to the TSDFDataset assumptions.  So for now I'm using this with good results, and as a dataset it's easy to use.  Wiki doesn't speak highly of this component though (several links to Mantis bugs and notes about needing to be changed to use TCSVDocument as reader/writer), so I'm wondering what the preferred database component is? If you want you can use TSDFDataSet as problems reported in mantis was fixed in meanwhile as far as I know. Just nobody did job for adding to Lazarus palette.
