Connecting to MySQL lazarus / 16-Databases ---------------------------------------------------------------------- HappyLarry · 2016-10-20 10:07 I have tried without success to connect to MySQL on Ubuntu but I keep getting the error "Server connect failed". I have installed MySQL via XAMPP (which actually installs MariaDB, PHP, and Apache in the root folder opt/lampp) It is  a fairly popular way of installing a web server on your computer. I have redirected the LibraryLoader component to look at /opt/lampp/lib/libmysqlclient.so.18.0.0i which is the correct client library as far as I know. The program seems to find the library and load it when the component is enabled. I have two questions; 1. Does anyone know iof any other adjustment I should make? 2. Has anyone else connected to the XAMPP setup in Linux? ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Leledumbo · 2016-10-20 11:31 Quote from: HappyLarry on October 20, 2016, 12:07:22 pmIt is  a fairly popular way of installing a web server on your computer. Which is not good and definitely not a way serious Linux users will ever do. We typically use what our distro provides and that turns out to be "just works". At least here (Manjaro 64-bit) and in my google compute engine instance (Ubuntu server 16.04 64-bit) they work without any hassle like your case. I don't know what XAMPP changes to the default config, a simple change of port is enough to destroy simple connection with expected default config. I suggest dropping XAMPP and go with your distro way. That will at least ensure you have compatible version of client and server version & bitness.
