Need advise on firebird3 ubuntu install lazarus / 16-Databases ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Michael Collier · 2016-05-25 08:43 I'm hoping to evaluate firebird 3 on a linux box, but after doing the install I had lock file problems and had to login to isql via sudo  and unable to connect to the server remotely (kept telling me my username and password need configuring). I searched web and this forum and found suggestions for chown the directories, changing some values in .conf file etc. I tried a whole bunch of them and probably made my system worst, so going to remove firebird3 and try again. This has all been done on my development linux box so I can hack as much as I like, but for my live server I can't afford to take any risks with file security etc. Does anyone have a definitive set of steps to install on ubuntu that I can attempt please? This is the installation procedure I used (I won't link to the fixes because I'm not sure which would be helpful to users who read this link in future) https://help.ubuntu.com/community/Firebird3.0 Thanks ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Michael Collier · 2016-05-26 09:13 In the end I installed firebird3 on an old windows machine and it works fine, I did try 1 last time doing install on linux but still had configuration issues. I'll stick with windows until firebird3 is part of the ubuntu standard software download and install. It would be helpful to know if anyone here is actually using firebird3 on linux, connecting remotely, I would assume so. If so I'll keep trying, between other jobs.
