revisiting an old post issue Yosemite and Firebird issues [SOLVED] lazarus / 16-Databases ---------------------------------------------------------------------- timcs · 2016-04-03 16:40 Hi   November last year I posted this problem -> http://forum.lazarus.freepascal.org/index.php/topic,30313.0.html ** A bit of History first before I proceed with the database issue **   Since that time until  recently when the MacBooks hard drive failed on me loosing data etc along the way, I had to start again from scratch and re-installed Lazarus the other day. This in itself was taxing because I had forgotten the woes of gdb and I am not even sure now that I have done that correctly but at least I can get into Lazarus. ** now on to the issue itself ** Trying not to have to post here again, I read through my post above and rattled my brain to what I had tried when I got this problem last time but as the months have gone by and my memory is not as good as is it use to be I struggled.  The issue remains with the same database when when I am trying to connect to it through the Lazarus IDE from the existing project that it comes up with libfbclient.dylib does not exist . From my post I stated that I needed to start firebird manually and set the permissions of the database to 777. Well I have tried this but it has made no difference. I wonder if A) the version of firebird has moved on since my last attempt and may be even B) so has Lazarus and there is something else I need to do. I have tried the isql as per the suggestion from GetMem in that post and I get : Statement failed, SQLSTATE = 28000 Your user name and password are not defined. Ask your database administrator to set up a Firebird login. Use CONNECT or CREATE DATABASE to specify a database So I then tried the other suggestion from GetMem which was to run: isql↵ Use CONNECT or CREATE DATABASE to specify a database SQL>CONNECT ""↵ CON>user 'SYSDBA' password 'masterkey';↵ To which I get : Statement failed, SQLSTATE = HY000 file /Users/tim/Documents/Lazarus/Security list/ is not a valid database Now this time I installed firebird 2.5 on the mac and also on a windows PC which when running my compiled program does actually work whereas before I struggled to get it to work at all. I have just had a brain wave on what this could actual be so I will still post this incase it does not work and if it does I will state my findings . ** EDIT **  Sadly not a good brain wave -  I though it was down to the copy of the database that i used on the Windows PC being newer and therefore it could have been backed up and restored from an older to newer version of firebird but this is not the answer after all . ---------------------------------------------------------------------- timcs · 2016-04-03 19:36 I may have solved this , on this occasion I used the symbolic link to fix the issue. Here I think there were two separate issues, one I was trying to use an old copy of the database which was not compatible with the new firebird engine and I have to admit I cannot remember how I upgraded it now . The second was to create this symbolic link as per this line : sudo ln -s /Library/Frameworks/Firebird.framework/Versions/A/Firebird /usr/local/lib/libfbclient.dylib which came from the last poster of this thread : http://forum.lazarus.freepascal.org/index.php/topic,8128.0.html So thanks to scott for that one And Sorry for wasting anyones time
