Any way to sperate constraint errors?

I have two constraints on a Field.

xField Range 1 to 500
xField Unique

All I am getting is "SQL Error: Constraint failed" and that's not a
lot of help to a user.

Is there an ErrorCode to use in a case statement to help tell user
understand which issue is at fault.

Of course I could have a generic response, "Out of range error 1..500
or duplicate exists." but that just seems a little (??)
unprofessional.
