Importing a Dataset from Delphi lazarus / 16-Databases ---------------------------------------------------------------------- martin17476 · 2016-02-03 09:09 Hello, I am migrating an old Delphi program to Lazarus. I have my datasets in a Tdm. The import was OK, but I need to create the Database. As I am new in Lazarus, I do not know how to do this. Could you help me  giving me some direction or tutorial? Thank you very much ---------------------------------------------------------------------- mangakissa · 2016-02-03 11:48 There are a few frameworks available for Lazarus using databases. SQLdb and ZEOS are the most common. How did you connect to the database in Delphi? Which database are you using? If the datamodule is converted successfully, which framework did the conversion tool use. You have to tell us more than this. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- martin17476 · 2016-02-03 11:53 Thank you very much, mangakissa. The original database was made with Database Destop and the tables are Paradox. I converted all the project drom Lazarus. These are the things I did. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- mangakissa · 2016-02-03 15:16 http://wiki.freepascal.org/Lazarus_Database_Overview#Lazarus_and_Parad ox If the conversion were successful, you can compile your application and run it. If you have worked in Delphi with paradox, you can use the same files. What's happens if you compile your converted application? ---------------------------------------------------------------------- martin17476 · 2016-02-03 17:30 I will try to explain briefly the situation. The application is a program for a small bussines in Delphi 2/4. When I compile, until now, the errors were mainly about the reports (they were made with QReport). Now the problema is with the database. I had all the tables and querys in a Dataset Module tan I can see in Lazarus too. But I need to define the database for each component. Perhaps with the new information you gave me about Paradox I can solve the problem. I am sending  two pictures. Many thanks again ---------------------------------------------------------------------- martin17476 · 2016-02-03 17:30 The 2nd picture ---------------------------------------------------------------------- valdir.marcos · 2016-02-03 19:13 Quote from: martin17476 on February 03, 2016, 06:30:03 pm... Take a look on these old threads, they will help you to see the similarities between QuickReport and FortesReport: Reporting packages http://forum.lazarus.freepascal.org/index.php?topic=16181.0 Error Installing FortesReport CE Lazarus 1.7 http://forum.lazarus.freepascal.org/index.php/topic,30969.msg197520.ht ml#msg197520 Here more information about FortesReport: https://github.com/fortesinformatica/fortesreport- ce/tree/master/Packages https://groups.yahoo.com/neo/groups/fortesreport/info http://fortesreport.com.br/ Some tutorials in English: http://fortes4lazarus.sourceforge.net/ ---------------------------------------------------------------------- martin17476 · 2016-02-03 19:14 Many thanks. I will study all these. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- LacaK · 2016-02-03 19:17 What database components do you have in Delphi ? TTable, TQuery ? If yes, these are components, which use BDE (Borland Database Engine) which is generic database abstraction layer. As you wrote for datastorage you use Paradox files. I doubt, that there is no simple way how to convert BDE based application from Delphi to Lazarus, if you does not use client-server SQL database. (because sqlDB does not have native connector to Paradox) May be you can think about TODBCConnection, but I do not know if there is ODBC driver for Paradox. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- mangakissa · 2016-02-03 19:25 As far as I can see, all your paradox data components from delphi are converted to TSQLQuery components in Lazarus. Therefore you need a database component to connect to the database. But paradox isn't a database at all. It's a filename with data in it like dBase files. So you have to install LazParadox. After installing you get in tab 'data access' a paradox component. This is what you need. You also need pxlib.dll to connect the file. Good luck ---------------------------------------------------------------------- taazz · 2016-02-03 21:18 or TODBCConnection with the microsoft paradox driver. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- valdir.marcos · 2016-02-03 21:37 Quote from: martin17476 on February 03, 2016, 12:53:40 pmThank you very much, mangakissa. Why don't you change your database solution from Paradox to SQLite or Firebird? https://www.sqlite.org/ http://www.firebirdsql.org/ They have many advantages over Paradox and are also small in size, use small memory, faster in performance and ease to learn. In case you choose Firebird, you can easily move your data from Paradox (BDE) using free Interbase DataPump utility: http://clevercomponents.com/downloads/datapump/index.asp ---------------------------------------------------------------------- martin17476 · 2016-02-04 07:16 Thnk you very much you all. I will check all yours advices and I will inform you about it.
